Name four movies, each evoking a different season (or just one movie/one season)
Edited on Sat Feb-20-10 10:18 PM by BurtWorm
Winter

The Fox (1967), dir. Mark Ryder. w/ Sandy Dennis and Keir Dullea. One of the first movies for "mature" audiences, The Fox was based on a book or story by DH Lawrence. If you see it now you wonder how anyone could have found it to be improper for anyone under 17. The lesbianism of Dennis and Anne Heywood probably had something to do with that. Anyway, it takes place in the north country in winter and evokes the season beautifully.

Spring

Lady Chatterly (2008), dir. by Pascale Ferran, with Marina Hands, Jean-Louis Coullo'ch. My kind of spring!

Summer

The Seven Year Itch, (1955), dir. by Billy Wilder, with Tom Ewell and Marilyn Monroe. If you've seen it, you'll know exactly what I mean.

Fall

The Trouble with Harry, (1955), dir. by Alfred Hitchcock, with John Forsythe and Shirley McClaine. A black comedy set in the fall in Vermont. A beautiful as well as very charming movie.

3. I can name ONE movie that invokes all4 seasons....
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring,_Summer,_Fall,_Winter..._and_Spring

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (UK: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring) is a 2003 South Korean film about a Buddhist monastery which floats on a lake in a pristine forest. The story is about the life of a Buddhist monk as he passes through the seasons of his life, from childhood to old age.

The movie was directed by Kim Ki-duk, and stars Su Oh-yeong, Kim Young-min, Seo Jae-kyung, and Kim Jong-ho. The director himself appears as the man in the last stage of life. The quiet, contemplative film marked a significant change from his previous works, which were often criticized for excessive violence and misogyny.

6. Summer is probably the most popular season for a movie.
I thought of Doctor Zhivago for winter myself. It does a pretty good job conveying spring and autumn as well. Can't remember how well it does with summer, though...

7. 4 seasons 4 films
Spring -- Where the Boys Are (1960) when spring break was relatively innocent
Summer -- The Long Hot Summer (1958) Paul Newman never looked better
Fall -- Any Given Sunday, Oliver Stone's ode to football
Winter -- Transsiberian, just watching this movie makes me cold

8. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.
"un coeur en hiver"

"The Producers".

"Summer" (okay, that one's a cop-out).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_(2008_film)

"Twin Peaks: Fire, Walk With Me".

Of course, "The Producers" and "Twin Peaks:..." contain songs that are on-topic...

9. For spring, it has to be "Enchanted April".
I'd vote "Dr. Zhivago" for winter too.

I'd have to think about the other two.

A harmless bit of fluff which is pretty durable.

Otherwise:

Suddenly Last Summer
Falling Down
Winter Kills

30. Gawd I hate that movie ...

Of course, when I saw it, I was 12. At that age, I saw this movie coming up on HBO, and it had "Hawkeye" and the awesome comedian who played that Missus-a-Whiggins character in it.

Talk about a let-down.

I have had no desire to watch it since ... but I remember it, vividly. It's like expecting chocolate ice cream and getting dirt.

25. The Shining, Carrie (Spring), Stand By Me (summer), Silver Bullet (Fall).
I think Silver Bullet was in the Fall. You'd think it would be easy to find a Stephen King movie set around Halloween, but my memory is blank.

35. Maybe.
Never saw the movie. I read the book, and I thought it had a fall feel. He might even give the time of year at the beginning.

Never saw or read "The Stand." Gotta get to that one day. :) "Under the Dome" takes place around Halloween, but they haven't made a movie of that yet.
