Poll question: Name the spaceship contest PART II... (There will be a prize)
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 03:03 PM by elfwitch
Yesterday I did a thread asking people to submit names for the ship.
So here is the contest. We are designing a ship for Rex Raygun. We cannot come up with a good name for the ship. I put it to the creative people here on DU to vote on the name Rex Raygun's ship. Whoever submits the winning name will get a special thanks mention in the closing credits of the show. Our top five choices are below. Please vote on the one you like the best. I have included the meaning of certain names on ones where it is not readily apparent.

When you vote, please post why you think the name you voted for is the best.

Here is the link from yesterday's posts:

Just to give you an idea about what kind of ship it is. His ship is big enough to have comfortable living quarters and a small cargo area. It is the best tech available in spaceships at the time. It has weapons and "warp" speed.

1. I'm voting for my idea darnit!

For those that worship me and my ideas, The Redemption was my suggestion.

2. I was going to tell everyone...
Feel free to vote for yourself. And if your name was on the list, tell everyone why you suggested that name.

The Adventures of Rex Raygun is a multi-level story with secrets built upon secrets. It explores concepts that apply to all levels of audience, from child to adolescent to adult, such as the awareness of religious identity, the ramifications of scientific exploration, the consequences of running from mistakes, and the necessity to make amends later in life for past errors.

Edit - re-posted from the original thread.

7. I'm not voting since my suggested name
which was much cooler than all of these 'names' isn't there. If I can't have my first choice, then I certainly have do desire to support a slightly less cool name, say "Peregrin" over a loser name like "Redemption" Better "redemption" than I sacrifice my dignity to support "peregrine" which is not my first choice. there is no difference between the slightly less cool "peregrine" and the absurdly cliched 'redemption' no difference at all.

Be aware that Invicta is a trademarked company name as well.

18. Mo' Betta' Cool Names
The Duplicity -- after a late-20th-century Raygun
The Cacchinator -- "Laugher"
The Cunctator -- "Delayer"
The Fustigator -- "Fusser"
The Crepitator -- "Creaker" or "Farter"
The Fungible -- "Replaceable Commodity"
The Platycephalator -- "Head-Flattener"
The Epideixis -- "Preachment"
The Psilocybe -- "Bald-Headed"
The Conocybe -- "Cone-Headed"
The Cyanops -- "Blue in the Face"

Most of the Latinate -or words can be converted to nominal nouns by using the -us ending.

As always, if I have made a mistake in my use of Latin or Greek, feel free to pounce, preferably with a grammatical exegesis.
