5. We only hate what we can't understand . . .
Why someone that rides a skateboard in the snow makes more money than we'll ever dream of.

Honestly, I had never heard of him until the 60 Minutes thing a couple weeks ago.

And the dude drives a Ferrari?

:wtf:

landed chin first from 10 feet up on the lip of a pipe, that'd be the end of him.

Won't say the same for Jeter. Hell of a fielder, no matter how I hate the Yanks.

12. Barbarian my ass
I knew he drove some exotic Italian sports car but I couldn't remember which one.

And they're all difficult to spell.

So I settled on some vague memory about a televised interview with Miles Davis, and how he had to call the California Highway Patrol and tell them when he bought a Ferrari so they wouldn't pull him over because a dude that looks like him has no business driving a Ferrari.

I feel the same way about Shawn Whatshisface. A dude that looks like him has no business driving such a fine car.

And how much of a difference is there really? I've driven them all in video games and I can't tell.

Maybe I should try the real thing.

In another life.

15. Well the thing I like about him is that he made his showboating actually work. Twice.
Unlike the kinky-haired blond who crashed and burned. Twice.

On the other hand, both of them are much too enamored with their own camera time.

His lack of humility hasn't hurt him yet.

Hers, however invited that karmic fist in for a couple of good sucker punches.

27. I find that men who go bald
...begin to lose it in their 20's.

Don't get me wrong. I dig bald men - another weakness.

As for the fading of the red, sigh. It happens and breaks my heart. I met up with an old boyfriend last year. He used to have this most amazing dark red hair, almost black red. His eyes even matched his hair. Now, his hair is brown mixed with grey and his eyes have faded as well. I was sad.

But I consider myself to be luckier than most guys my age, hair-wise anyway, even my younger brothers have some pattern baldness going on.

20. As much as he looks like an uncreative, pretentious, fuckwit ass - he actually seems quite real,
quite generous, and quite humble.

He clearly does his sport for love of the sport, and it seems his main mission in life is to advance his sport and his sport's potentials.

When I first saw him, my automatic assumption was to hate him because of his cliche hair and his ignorant surfer-dude attitude; but once I heard him speak, and heard about his dedication and his altruistic initiatives, and his interviews on the Today Show, I realize he's actually a very decent, intelligent, and big-hearted person.

The cliche asshole hair and silly surfer dude attitude is unfortunate, but it clearly does not in any way define who he is.

He's from nearby Carlsbad, CA. Always good to see a local kid make good.

He completely owned that halfpipe. I loved how he didn't even need to do his second run, but went ahead and outdid himself. His air time is unreal. Gave gravity the middle finger!

No hater here.

29. who gives a fuck what DU thinks?
because using the word "think" is overly generous, and the wisdom of any crowd is often not wisdom at all.

Shaun White is great at what he does. He pushes the envelope of what is possible, he does new tricks no one else can do and literally achieves heights that no one else has reached.

39. There's much more to him than olympics/sport.
'What's driving you?

Ah, man. How much time do we have? Because I could go on forever. What drives me now is the fact that I feel like I still have so many tricks that I want to learn and so many things that I can still do. And so many cool things outside of sports that I have been doing. You know, I went to Africa, and just kind of like the experience of going and meeting kids. And there is a thing we are doing at Target House in Memphis. It's next to the St. Jude Hospital. It's a long-term care facility.

What's it like being involved with the Target House?

It is so cool because you go down there and you meet these kids that are just dealing with these incredible things that they should not be dealing with, and to see their spirits so high, and they are so excited, so amped to meet you and you put on a skate demo and come into the house and do all these things, it has been wild. I mean, I get letters in the mail because I had a heart defect when I was one, I had surgeries and stuff. And so you get these letters in the mail that just, they are crazy, they are just like, yes, well our son is dealing with the same thing and we saw you on TV and I mean it is such a cool thing to inspire and kind of give hope. You know what I mean? It is pretty cool to have something bigger going on.

You also mentioned going to Africa. Can you talk a little bit about that trip?

That was one of those things where I was doing some commercials and some spots on television about African relief, and I just don't believe in kind of saying and supporting something that I didn't really know much about, and it felt awkward to me.'
