We just got a new camera and I know what I want to do!
I want to take a picture that makes people pause. Makes them think of how pretty the picture is. Make them open their eyes to a world of possibilities within that one brief frame.

I don't want to win a Pulitzer. I just want to snap a picture that people might actually enjoy.

1. Join the artist in all of us
You might be able to snap many pictures like that. But you have to be willing to throw away a 100 for every one that's perfect.

Oh. And please only yourself because that's the way to do it.

2. I'm a very harsh critic of my own stuff...
I won't mind throwing away a hundred pictures if just one meets my criteria.

3. Come visit the photography group
Hi,
I was just wandering through the lounge and saw the word "camera". Got my attention! I hope you stop by the photography group (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=280). It's a great place to hang out, share pictures and give/get photography advice. All skill levels welcome, from beginner and up. One of the friendliest groups on DU. Hope you'll check it out.

6. Go visit the Karakoram Range
in northern Pakistan :P

I'm still reading Greg Mortenson's book "Three Cups of Tea" (yes, I'm a slow reader) and he's constantly pointing out how magnificent they are, that even photographs don't do them justice. Yet, I get a good idea from that link above :D

Okay, maybe you can't go to K2 right now, but I'm sure you'll come up with something. Look over the photos in the DU Photography group and you'll get ideas :)
