Did anyone see the men's moguls?
Can anyone explain to me why Colas did not place higher than 6th place? He was the fastest, he looked tight. I understand his jumps weren't his personal best, but they were still better than 6th place. What happened?

1. The commenters mentioned that he messed up on one of his jumps.

He didn't grab his skis like he was supposed to. I also noticed when he first came out that his legs came apart at one point. I think they're supposed to keep their knees tight and together when they're coming down the moguls. When the competition is as tight as it is, those little mistakes can make a big difference. But I'm not this big expert on it or anything. I'm only going based on what they said. I could tell by the way he was standing there waiting for his score that he didn't expect to win, though. He knew he'd messed that jump up.

4. I didn't think he'd win first. But I thought he'd get 2nd or 3rd.
The jumps only count for 25% and the rest of his run looked good. I thought he looked shocked by his score.

I'm glad the Canadian won. I just thought it was odd.

6. I thought it would be 2nd or 3rd, too.
I think it's just a matter of how tight the competition is. There were just so many runs that were so good. The commenters didn't mention the legs coming apart in the beginning, but I saw it. It happened so fast that if you blinked you might have missed it because he was really flying, but he came a little unglued just at the beginning. His leg just kind of skipped off. There were just too many runs where they smoked their jumps and their runs were tight.

2. Any sport where 25% of your score is based on judging...
... is bound to have unexpected outcomes.

3. they took his score down so quickly that I couldn't see what his turns scored
That was a bit irritating.

Here are the results with complete scores, though: http://www.nbcolympics.com/freestyle-skiing/resultsandschedules/event=FRM020000/phase=FRM020101/index.html

Looks like he scored about a full point lower on the jumps than the medal winners, and his speed (which only counts 25%) wasn't enough of a cushion to make up for that.
