Oh, now isn't this just the SWEETEST Valentine gift?
Independent Film Channel is showing Russ Meyer's Beyond The Valley of the Dolls tonight and tomorrow. Here on the Left Coast, it played at 7 PM (I just watched it).
Showing again at 10 PM PST tonight, and 1 AM and 4 AM tomorrow. Or Monday morning, I guess...
If you've never seen this piece of awesome cinema, treat yourself. You won't be disappointed, especially if you're a fan of Ed Wood or MST3K.
It's got EVERYTHING! Gazongas! L.A circa 1970! Hooters! Nazis! Tits! Sword-wielding trannies! Poke-your-eye-out nipples! Wardrobes by Frederick's of Hollywood, or maybe Frederick's of Barstow! Ta-tas! The Strawberry Alarm Clock! Demented prizefighters! Important moral lessons! Non-Jesus miracle healings!
And the cars! Jebus! That Chrysler convertible had enough metal in one fender to make six Toyota Priuses! (Priusi?)
Best of all, it was co-written by Roger Ebert. Yep, THAT Pulitzer Prize winning Ebert. Who says nowadays, with a straight face, that he was only writing a "parody of Hollywood." Yeah, yeah, sure, Roger...whenever writers screw the pooch, they claim it was just a joke.
Which describes most of the dialogue, totally incapable of ever being uttered on planet Earth by any living human:
"You're a groovy boy. I'd like to strap you on some time."
Poor John La Zar ("Z-Man") got treated even worse by the writers, Ebert and Meyer. He has to walk around spouting orotund antique faux-British language that must have been cut-and-pasted from one of Roger Corman's scripts during his Poe/Vincent Price era.
A must see!!!!
