In keeping with the REAL MAN automotive theme of the evening,
Edited on Fri Feb-12-10 08:55 PM by MineralMan
I thought I'd show you the cars a real man drives. Here are all the cars I've owned in my 46 years of driving, along with some two-wheeled vehicles. Learn what a real man drives...and weep:

1. And bow-hunting for sharks!
Great page, I've bookmarked it for a more thorough read later.

Ever make it to the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show?

12. I've been to the Tucson show many times. I'm not a mineral specimen
dealer any more, though, so I'm not going.

I was born in Superior, AZ, and both of my grandparents worked in the Magma mine there. One of the last of the deep shaft copper mines...still closed, I believe.

4. Well, no doubt you have some good cars in there, Fiat, Mini,
and a ... oh oh, bug eyed Sprite. Yikes, Sprite!
But let me 'splain you here. Real Men drive BMW's and ride BMW motorcycles, except for an occasional Prius.
Ergo ...

6. A mechanic told me straight-6 was best, then they don't make them anymore
and when I went to a car lot I told the sales dude I wanted a straight 6 and he said, "Well, of COURSE a *mechanic* would tell you that, since it's easier to work on!1"

7. That was a fun read. Thanks!
I should do something like that. Pity all of the Gran Torino fastbacks that did not survive me.

16. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Cars are the markers of our lives, I
think. They bring back all sorts of memories and most of us can remember every one we owned.

"KILLED.SHARKS.WITH.A.BOW"

--That's all you had to post, and NO ONE will ever question your credentials or wisdom again...

Car culture fandom is for internet warriors like me who don't know how to KILL SHARKS WITH A BOW...

Oh yeah, if that GMC Moving Van ever comes back your way, I'll hold on to it for awhile...

13. Uhaul is always selling those moving trucks.
Go to www.uhaul.com and there's a link.

If you think about buying one, realize that the asking price is not the actual price. You can knock it down quite a bit. Also realize that there will be work to do on it, once you buy it. Drive all of the ones available, and try to pick the best one.

They're pretty cool, overall, and it made it across the country OK.

14. That was excellent!
You have a knack for finding bad cars! (I'll give you the Volvos, but some of the others... )

I wouldn't mind finding a Plymouth Suburban though. That looks cool.

15. They're pretty hard to come by. Not many survived the 60s
junkyards. It was an OK car, but not a great car. When you can find a restored one, though, they go for plenty, but that's probably due to rarity.

17. Love the pix and the stories. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us.
I love cars, too... :loveya:

When we were small, my cousin's grandmother had a Corvair. It was white. Periodically, these thick fumes would invade the car, she'd shout "fog alert" and we'd cover our faces. She was used to it...

I've had three cars in my life, a 1971 Plymouth Duster that my mother passed on to me, a 1977 Dodge Diplomat that I inherited from my Dad, and I now own a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. I've loved them all, but the Duster was my favorite. :-)

And a very interesting and unique way of chronicling the milestones in your life... :hi:

This is the first car that I remember. It was a 1956 Pontiac that my parents had, except theirs was gray and white... They had that car for around 10 years, wish they still had it. I was riding with my mother when she had two separate blowouts in it and we barely went off of the road... And the whitewalls! :loveya:
