4. Try taking it down as small as you can
and it should be re-sized automatically by the DU program. I got mine down to about 140 x 140 and it worked when I submitted it.

5. I can only get it as small as 2.4 kb

9. make a new document that's 48 by 48 pixels at 72 dpi
drop your picture into this file, and size to fit
