Karaoke - It's not for everyone!
Sinatra Song Often Strikes Deadly Chord

GENERAL SANTOS, the Philippines — After a day of barbering, Rodolfo Gregorio went to his neighborhood karaoke bar still smelling of talcum powder. Putting aside his glass of Red Horse Extra Strong beer, he grasped a microphone with a habitué’s self-assuredness and briefly stilled the room with the Platters’ “My Prayer.”

Next, he belted out crowd-pleasers by Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck. But Mr. Gregorio, 63, a witness to countless fistfights and occasional stabbings erupting from disputes over karaoke singing, did not dare choose one beloved classic: Frank Sinatra’s version of “My Way.”

“I used to like ‘My Way,’ but after all the trouble, I stopped singing it,” he said. “You can get killed.”

The authorities do not know exactly how many people have been killed warbling “My Way” in karaoke bars over the years in the Philippines, or how many fatal fights it has fueled. But the news media have recorded at least half a dozen victims in the past decade and includes them in a subcategory of crime dubbed the “My Way Killings.”

1. When someone starts "My Way"
that's usually my cue to visit the restroom.

2. At least the song doesn't evoke a desire in you to wound or maim - or does it? ;-) n.t

3. is it that you don't like the song
or is it that people usually butcher it.

i have it on my ipod and when it comes on i will "quietly" sing it. (my 70 yo coworker gets all gigggly over my attempts at singing so it has to be quietly)

6. I abhor that song
if I've had a drink, I start singing along saying "I did it SIDEWAYS"

8. Ouch
I can imagine 1,001 ways in which that song can be slaughtered. Is it usually better or worse than "You're the One That I Want"?

Speaking of which--MissMillie, IIRC you're a karaoke aficionado, so I have to ask if you've seen a trend toward more tunes being performed since they've been featured on Glee--? Just curious. :)

4. I wonder if the Sex Pistols version is as dangerous as the Sinatra version.
It seems like there would be no getting that wrong.

Do other Sinatra songs cause fatalities too?
