How would you improve your neighborhood?
I'd get rid of all the dogs. Just about any time of the day, you can hear at least one dog barking. I hate dogs!

1. I'd get rid of people who hate dogs.
I trust dogs more than most people.

Around here you can hear dogs barking, so what?

You can also hear cars with loud stereos, car horns, squealing tires and assorted sirens at any time of day or night.

3. Convert the fire station into a bar
No bars within easy walking distance. The fire station is about 200 yards away.

That would be so freakin' cool.

That's why it will never happen.

5. Public transit.
I live 5 miles from the end of the Metro Orange Line coming out of DC and 1.2 miles from the furthest point of the Annapolis public transit bus system...it'd be nice if someone ran a connector service between the two with stops at the 8 exits on Rt. 50 between New Carrollton and Downtown Annapolis...I'd be able to walk to the end of my road, make a left, walk a 1/2 mile and get on a DC or Annapolis-waterfront bound bus.

6. I'd install sidewalks on one side of every street and paint a divider line on the central street
because we AREN'T out in the country, we're just an island of county jurisdiction near a small city with sidewalks on its streets. Many people walk around here.

Hell, I'd settle for flat walkable shoulders so that pedestrians and speeding cars aren't vying for the same lanes.

8. oh this should be good

I do like them to be on leashes - the people next door seem to think this is the country, not a city suburb and let their dog wander into the street and my yard :wtf: , but I don't mind them in general.

10. I would make my neighbors on BOTH sides
clean up their back yards. I've never seen so much junk in my life. We own a duplex and live in the back part so when we look out our living room window (which is on the second floor of a split-level) we look right into the back yard of the neighbors to the east. Our fence is six feet high, but it's not high enough. They're nice people, but I think they've got that hoarding thing going on.

The guy on the other side has built a "shop" in his back yard where he does car repairs (illegally, I'm sure). He has been known to burn his shop sweepings which creates a really nice petrochemical smell that permeates our house. My husband has called him on it a couple of times, but we haven't turned him in. He's done some car repairs for us at a discount rate (buying us off, no doubt) so we grin and bear it.

I would LOVE it though if they took a little more pride in their surroundings. We've spent a lot of time beautifying our property and it just kind of sucks that they won't do the same.

11. That's my dog. Only he barks mostly at night. Makes him feel important.
Sidewalks would be nice. It's a 2 lane road with 55mph leadfoot drivers.

18. Add a Mexican restaurant
this must be the ONLY neighborhood in San Jose without one!

And, bring back a grocery to the space vacated by Albertson's, and now occupied by a preternaturally cheesy discount store and a Dollar Tree. There is a Safeway, but it's four blocks from here, which matters when you're on the way back laden with five or six bags.
