Favorite modern era comedic roles for women in TV.
For me, it has to be Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation, Elizabeth Perkins as Celia Hodes in Weeds, Toni Collette as Tara in The United States of Tara, Kaitlin Olson as Sweet Dee in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Christine Willes as Delores Herbig in Dead Like Me.

I hope that Parks and Recreation doesn't get canceled. That show has overtaken The Office as one of my favorite comedies.

Share some of your favorites. :hi:

5. How could I forget Pushing Daisies?
I think the same writers or producers as Dead Like Me were on Daisies.

Cute show.

7. And Holland Taylor as Evelyn ...
she kills me.

Evelyn (to Charlie): Remember your second step-father?

Charlie: The Carpet King?

Evelyn: Well, that's what "I" called him, it's not like it was his profession or anything.

:P

12. I always felt sorry for Marin Hinkle - thankless role
I always liked Rose (Melanie Lynskey) and Berta (Conchata Farrell)

Evelyn and Berta get a LOT of good lines

3. I love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia!
Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 12:09 AM by Quantess
That is one of the funniest shows in recent memory.

Portia DiRossi in Arrested Development. Actually the mother, Lucille, was even more perfect in her role.

I have not seen most of the shows you listed. I guess I should check them out when I get the chance.

4. I'll agree with your picks and add a couple
(but I won't look up the actresses names). I agree about Parks & Rec, and I also am loving Community.

Grace (Will & Grace)
Lois (Malcolm in the Middle)

8. Jane Lynch on Glee
Yeah, it's a one-note character but she sustains that note brilliantly.

11. Indeed!
Jane Lynch is a goddess. Even the scene with her and her sister (in the psychiatric ward) was brilliant. I was a little worried when I heard they were going to show Sue's softer side, but she pulled it off without it ever looking the least bit "mushy".
Kudos, Jane!

I liked when she let her bitch flag fly. The character on Reaper is like the Id of Delores Herbig.

16. "Shirley Schmidt" and and "Catherine Piper" from "Boston Legal"
Candice Bergen and Betty White are two of the best comedic actresses around, even if their show is no longer being produced. I also really like Doris Roberts as "Marie Barone" in "Everybody Loves Raymond." She is a hoot Can't say the same for her cast mate, Patricia Heaton. :puke:

The best one of all, because she created it herself!

24. The Modern Era ran from 1919 to approximately 1970. Once hippies go mainstream, it's postmodern
Of course all of it is open to debate--I've seen a good case made that we are still basically in the Romantic Era. But I'm going with the most popular conceit. Once the trends in all the literary, architectural, artistic, and socio-economic fields start seeing the decentralizing tendencies overwhelm the centralizing tendencies, you have to call that postmodern.
