So I have a lead for a job and I have a question

Monday night I was contacted by a recruiter for a job I applied for and he asked me a couple of questions and for my e-mail address. I gave it to him and he sent me information on a process on things I need to do before I go into training, some of it costs money but not so much. A physical is one thing I'm not sure will cost but that isn't the issue.

He asked me to call him on Tuesday which was yesterday. He has his office phone number listed in the e-mail with hours listed from 6:30am-3:30pm MST. I wasn't able to call until 2pm yesterday because I had to go somewhere to fax (which I don't have) the past employment verification form to the fax number listed on his e-mail. The issue is he hasn't been answering the phone and I left a message with my name and # yesterday. I also called today at 11:30am, 1:00 and 3:00 no answer but I did leave a message when I called at 11:30. One other thing is on Monday evening he called me on his cell phone where on the message he left for me he said I could call him that evening on his cell phone. I'm very reluctant to call his cell phone but I did once yesterday because I thought that might be the main phone he uses considering he did call me from it.

I have a couple of questions I would like to ask him, also would like to verify he received my past employment verification form, and I would like to get the general feeling if I do this, this, and this I got the job especially before I put any costs into it.

My question to you is what should I do? Continue calling his office phone everyday until he picks up? If so how often per day? I don't believe he is avoiding my calls but that he is unavailable, however I wish I knew when was a good time to call especially since I'm calling within the hours listed. Or should I wait given that I left two messages and if so, how long before I breakdown and call again or give up? Or should I call his cell phone? :scared: I also have his e-mail address where I haven't yet e-mailed him.

I don't want to go to the point of desperate, clingy, or even worse stalking but I would like to get in touch to know what is going on especially since he told ME to call HIM yesterday on Monday. I would love to have steady, full time job which I haven't in awhile. I've been stuck doing temporary work where it's been slow lately.

1. Yes, absolutely, keep calling. You only FEEL needy on your end.

On their end, it will seem like dedication. Pace yourself; don't call three times a day. Go ahead and use that cell phone number. Hang in there.

3. Umm, if you have to PAY for anything prior to accepting a job offer

that's not a job offer, it's a scam. I have had several of those; they get your basic personal info, maybe references and they are done with you. I would not be the least bit afraid to call the dude's cell phone, because IMHO you have nothing to lose.

4. Without trying to divulge too much information about where I intend on working

the company is a publicly traded entity on the NASDAQ market system. I'm sure that doesn't mean it's a scam but this is what I pay and who I pay.

I believe a permit is free, but the driver's license is $25. Before I can even take the permit I need to get a D.O.T. physical from a doctor. I'm not sure how much that will cost.

I need to get the permit before I can enroll in their training program, they cover the greyhound trip(they have academies in San Antonio and Phoenix--I live in a vicinity of the latter), hotel, I have to pay for my own food. I technically pay for the training program. I have to sign a contract for 13 months and they take out $37 a week to cover the costs. If I decide to work another 12 months after that they will refund me $37 a week.

After the training they will take me to take the Class A test to get the license, that is $25 for me. One other thing I believe there is a $150 sitting fee for the training.

So not as scammy as I originally thought. It sounds like they are basically looking for people who are actually willing to make the commitment and pay their dues--literally in this case. That can be a tough way to earn a living, but if you got Siruis in your rig you can listen to lefty radio all day long!

so I have done it before. You can't use a Military license to get a Class A in AZ unlike a couple of states.

and his phone number into a search engine. Just see what comes up. If you get nothing much also try using the word scam after both. This could be someone trying to scam you!

is first and last name @ company name. Like I said the company is a public traded entity on the NASDAQ and has been around since 1966. Also I'm confident that you may have seen their vehicles on the road.

I typed his cell phone into it but it requires money for owner information but I got carrier, city, and state.

No background check, besides I called not long after I sent it I can't imagine him simply not answering the phone because I'm sure there are other job seekers. Unless he has caller ID, *67 maybe? :shrug:

10. i can tell you this

anyone with any authority who works in the capacity that guy is probably working in has a lot distractions. Follow up, voicemail/email, but then let it sit. I'd wait until the next week to follow up again.

nobody wants to be pestered, plus it shows that you respect his position and his time.

I'll wait til next week. The thing is he wanted me to call him yesterday and I have a couple of questions. In the meantime I'll study the manual to prepare for the permit.
