1. Maybe you should bake some cookies or something...
I remember when my apartment building in Baltimore ran out of heating oil in the middle of a blizzard about 30 years ago. It wasn't fun...

I hope you can get warm soon!

2. When I was a young man, we couldn't get our flat above 6.5 degrees.
.
And that was in August.
.
And the landlord had all those sides of beef hanging all over the place.
.
Rent was cheap, though.
.

4. run your shower on hot water for a few minutes
That might help a bit.

But ya know, 65 is higher than many people set their thermostats. It would be too warm for me, that I know.

5. I don't understand. 65 is where my thermostat is set. Isn't it a waste of fuel to go higher? nt

7. Thermostat locked by the landlord or unusually cold weather
If your place is not sealed up well for winter (like in the South), look for air infiltration - 'cus that 'll make the cold spots more like 45. Hanging blankets over windows and doors is a pretty good temporary expedient, as are rolled up towels at the bottom of doors. If you don't have an electric blanket or heated mattress pad (the best!), use a heating pad to warm up the bedding, and throw on an extra blanket, comforter, or throw.

9. thanks for the advice
we have now done all those things, including a heated mattress.. We live in an 1800's four story building. Our huge windows are far from well insulated

14. we use those oil heaters that look like radiators - they work pretty well
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 08:49 PM by tigereye
a bit expensive for the electricity though...

stay warm - make soup and bake some cookies... cooking always warms things up - we did that when our furnace was on the fritz last spring...

16. Stew, chili, and good ol' chicken soup
Could'nt hoit! But don't use a gas oven for a heat source - uses up the oxygen in the room, which leads to other problems.
