Post good examples of cinematography.
Good cinematography involves things like camera placement, use of proper lenses, depth of field, and most importantly (IMO) use of lighting.

It seems to me that many people tend to think it just involves pretty images. Sunsets and whatnot.

From The Night of the Hunter (it's the lighting, stupid):

7. The Apartment -1960
The stark b/w accentuates the darkness of the story. While funny this is no comedy.

8. Ridley Scott's 'Hannibal' — the opera scene...
Very creepy (and beautifully filmed and scored) scene where Inspector Pazzi and his wife encounter Hannibal Lecter at an open-air opera...

13. Hitchcock's "Rear Window"
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 10:29 PM by woo me with science
We are put in Jeff's shoes (or leg cast) with control of the filming through the apartment windows. For the most part, we see only what he can see, and so we are unsure at first, just like him, whether the suspicions of murder could be accurate. We are also as helpless as he is while watching Lisa confronted by the murderer in his apartment.

The apartments are colorful, varied, and busy, highlighting the everyday activity and lack of privacy in the apartments. Darks are used only as the story gets more sinister and we are drawn into Jeff's suspicions. I am still creeped out by the image of the glowing and fading cigar tip in the pitch black apartment of Thorwald, the murderer.
