I post rock, metal, country, folk, Tex-Mex, JPOP, blues, pop and all points in between. I know the tastes of a few fellow DUers who regularly respond to certain genres I post, so I can sometimes predict what responses I'll get, but I'm not out there taking audience requests. I'm posting stuff that amuses me first, and everyone else second.

Like most people, I like some of the stuff; actually a lot of it, and some I just can't get into...But I'm always open to checking out artists I wasn't familiar with, and wish I had enough time to listen to all the music you and some other people post here. I've been turned on to some very cool music through others here and bet I've missed a lot more that I would've liked had I checked out every single you tube link on every music thread, which is basically impossible . I myself have areas where I'm very knowledgeable, but many more areas where I don't know a damn thing, so keep 'em coming .

my problem is slow dial-up and shitty speakers (plus having a pretty good community station) so I just don't bother with too many music posts (or other you tube stuff)

(Trying so, so, so hard not to be an OCD net nanny).

It's just sometimes half the threads in the lounge are one line song titles with a link and it does seem to start to resemble spam if you're not that into music.

There's a whole music appreciation forum and I think it would be cool to have maybe one thread a day in the lounge where people could post what they're listening to and discuss it. But fifteen or sixteen "just one song threads", I personally just find annoying just like if someone started a thread for every single football game each Sunday or someone else started fifteen threads each one discussing a different movie by the same director.

Right now there are seven threads on the front page of the lounge that are just links to music (and four of them are the same thing... there's no reason that couldn't have been one thread with four links in it).

I'd just like to ask, please, please, please if people could think a little bit about condensing some of these low content threads into something that would give other threads some space to breathe.

On edit: one thread I thought was really successful (and actually have bookmarked) was the "post a hauntingly beautiful song". That was a great discussion that turned me on to some new artists. Maybe we could have more open ended discussions like that rather than thread focusing on only one song.
