I received an "Outstanding" rating for my General Surgery rotation!
Surprised the hell out of me. I had been struggling so hard to keep up with all those residents in their mid-twenties (I'm 41). I thought I was failing miserably; my misery was compounded by having to get up at 3:45 every morning to make it to the hospital for rounds at 5. :hangover:

My preceptor must have noticed how hard I was trying, because he wrote "works hard and highly motivated" on my evaluation sheet. Could have knocked me over with a feather.

Anyway, that's done, thank God. I spoke with my new preceptor today for my Orthopedic rotation starting on Monday. Work starts at 9:30 in the morning. Much better! :-)

3. Yeah, no kidding.
The residents actually had to work much harder, to be honest. But then, they were in their twenties and drawing a paycheck.

Come to think of it, I was actually paying to go through all of that! :dunce:

But it's worth it... B-)

2. Wow, Aristus. Congratulations.
I like the idea of a sensible 41 year old grownup learning medicine! I'm sure you bring an extra measure of life experience to it that more than cancels out your age difference.

4. I'll give the residents their props for being highly intelligent and very knowledgeable.
But having years of patient care experience as a Medical Assistant, I was able to hold my own in the area of patient relations.

6. My dear Aristus!
Good for you!

This is outstanding news, and not surprising at all!

And I must agree...9:30 AM is a much more civilized hour!

Congrats, sweetie!

Here's to continued successes...

Boy, I could sure use a celebratory drink right now. I think there's a 1/4 of a bottle of wine left downstairs...

Salud!

But you should know know the correct name for that rotation (and the career field, for that matter) is general slavery. :P

You're an M3 I assume, right? My apologies if I misunderstood the post but it sounds like you're doing your third-year rotations.

What specialty do you think you want to go into? What school do you go to?

17. Actually, I'm a Physician Assistant Student. I'm in my second ( that is: Clinical) year
of my program. A series of four-week clerkships and a four-month preceptorship. I suppose I shouldn't complain about four weeks when the residents are doing an arduous three to four year hitch. But it was rough-going there for a while. And I'm a grandfather!... B-)

Welcome to DU, by the way! :hi:

Speaking of sawbones, my Orthopedic rotation is up next starting on Monday. I'll be sawing plenty of bones, all right...
