Think about 1977, when they came out.

Afternoon Delight was the most played song at the time

And Mark Mothersburgh is talking (singing?) about De-Evolution. At the same time, his music is this stilted, mechanic, removed music that emphasizes his point

Mark Mothersburgh is a genius

Their cover of "Satisfaction" tells you everything you want to know about Devo

"Are we not men?" tells you everything you want to know about Humanity's future

Bonus points for those who remember they were from Kent State

Yeah, that Kent State!

1. Mark Mothersbaugh is now a regular on Yo Gabba Gabba.
Which is now the vanguard of children's educational/entertainment TV, leaving Sesame Street in the dust.

He teaches kids how to draw!

BTW: Yo Gabba Gabba may not teach your child to be a Titan of Industry, but it will teach your child to be cool!

5. I get the bonus points!
'cause I knew that. Saw them in Tucson in early 80's. I wish I could remember the year. That decade is a little snowy.;)

6. My boss has a dog named Deva
they were going to name it Devo but she's a girl.

And she's only in her mid-30s! Must have been a precocious little tyke...

7. They even made a cartoon song sound great!
"Go Monkey Go" from "The Powerpuff Girls."

I remember seeing them on Saturday Night Live in the 70's.
Being sick of Top-40 pop, I said "Yes!"

8. The late '70s were a remarkably diverse time, musically.
Yes, most of the "top 40" was garbage, but there was a lot of interesting music, if you looked beyond that.

9. True - think Bowie's Heroes to Saturday Night Fever to Jonathan Richman
Of course 89 and 99 were pretty amazing too :)

10. Ahh, Devo
Mark Mothersbaugh is a Subgenius. Ivan Stang created the Barbie/Ken stop-action animation for Love Without Anger. There's a reason with the little kids in Rugrats say "boB" instead of "god".

I waited on Mothersbaugh once. Sweet, shy man.

My favorite tune is a tie between We're Through Being Cool and Freedom of Choice.

11. Yeah, I missed a chance to get an official energy dome hat in the early eighties.
I just couldn't afford it.

Still can't afford it. :eyes:
