Ever work a crazy schedule?
Ever feel like you weren't even part of the rest of society?

It takes a different kind of person to work a schedule like mine, year after year after...

sigh.

2. Half the weekend and nights...
soon to change to early morning and the other half of the weekend.

Then, in 4 months or so... who knows? Life in the airline biz.

7. Yeah, I used to have a job with a 65-80 hour work week
for at least half the year. You really have to watch out for adrenal fatigue in jobs like that; your entire body can start to break down from the stress.

It might do other things to me, but I can leave it when I leave work... that is important to me.

Hope you find something good soon. :hi:

11. I think my schedule qualifies
I'll be flying Saturday night until 12:30 am to Ecuador, off during the day, then flying all night the next night back to the states, arriving around 6 am. Just another typical work day.

15. I work overnights, have for years now
Started at 3am-11:30am and I'm now 1am - 9:30am
I am used to it, but sleep can be a real bitch. I don't sleep a lot during the day and usually get the bulk of my daily sleep from 7-midnight.
Than I reverse myself for a couple days on the weekends, and try and revert back Sundays.
It kind of sucks but I will take it. Fewer managers to deal with, which is ALWAYS a good thing.

Didn't sleep enough or well. Ended up coming home from my

and wrecking my car (walked away with one scratch... but I
totaled my 1971 Dodge Charger -- excuse me while I wipe away
a tear).

TREMENDOUS job, except for those pesky hours.

This week started out rather light, maybe 30 hours. Next week I'm looking at 60+ hours. Not that I'm complaining, but consistency would be nice.

41. I heard that. I'm a freelance graphic designer too. I had a ton of work right before
Christmas when I wasn't expecting it at all. And a bunch of clients were asking what my schedule was like in January so I thought I was going to be crazy busy. Now it's kinda meh. Not that busy. I have some work, but definitely need more.

I've landed a new client who needs me to do 2 or 3 ads for a publication every month, but one thing or another has prevented this from starting up. Once the ball is rolling it will be nice to have some guaranteed income every month, but for now I'm biting my nails a little bit.

2002-2003: Wake up at 5 am and pack up family: wifey, kid and I. Drive to San Mateo (from San Ramon) Drop kid off at day care, drop wife off at work, go to Palo Alto for work. Leave at 5 and do the same process backwards.

32. Oh hell yeah
We serviced trucks and BS details from 4am-5pm(often later) at our home base than we'd drive during all night because of less visibility so they have a less likely of spotting us and little to none traffic because of curfews.

35. I went through an entire year...
...where I...by choice...worked a "straight-through" shift that began at midnight and ended at 8 AM. Didn't take a lunch / dinner / whatever break. Didn't want one. Smoked at the time, and so did most of the guys I worked with in the warehouse, so I cranked up my radio, worked and smoked and drank coffee, and when my supervisor came in each morning, the physical evidence of me working my ass off was always apparent (we mailed data sheets / manuals / promotional literature for many Silicon Valley companies, so I basically packed boxes for eight hours straight).

I then totaled my car in a 3-car pileup on the Bayshore freeway and had to depend on a ride to work while it was being repaired, so that ended the graveyard shift. I always considered the accident to be God's little way of pulling me out of my self-imposed exile. On many nights, I was the only person in the warehouse. On others, there might be one or two guys in the machine area (where mass-mailings were labeled, metered and bagged for the post office).

36. I'm working one right now. My General Surgery rotation.
Four weeks of craziness. The residents are gently nudging me to see how much I can take. (Easy for them; I'm 41, and they're in their twenties...) So I work dark-to-dark, go home, sleep a few hours, pass a few words with the stranger in my house who vaguely resembles the woman I married, then up again in the dark to do rounds at the hospital. One more day and then the weekend. One more week and then I'm done. Bleh! :hangover:

39. Hell yeah.
I work nights at a movie theater and do freelance work during the day. My schedule changes all the time.

Plus I'm angling for Census work, so get ready for 40 hours a week of that to be thrown in the mix!

I'm happy with it. I'm unmarried, no kids and I get bored doing the same thing everyday.

40. When I was in high school I worked nights at a bakery (over the summer). My friends
and I would go out dancing in the city (grew up in the burbs), then they'd drop me off at work on the way home. One of my friends would go home, take a shower, then report to work at O'Hare at 4 am. The other worked a fairly normal shift at around 10 am. This was before cell phones and email, so we mostly communicated at around 7 or 8 pm when all of us were finally awake at the same time, off work and ready to go out again.

Those were a fun couple of summers.

Now I'm a freelancer and I work out of my house, so I work all kinds of weird hours. The only reason I ever know the day is when my husband is home on the weekends.

43. Oh, yes
I had a couple of crazy schedules in the Air Force. When I worked Maintenance Job Control, I worked 12-12. Noon to Midnight for three days, then three days off. Then Midnight to noon for three days off, repeat.

My best schedule ever was from noon to 8. I got to party all night, sleep in, and still make work.

Back when I managed a RadioShack I worked 80+ hours a week. Exhausting, but thrilling. I had the only non-mall store in Alabama to do a million dollars in sales that year.
