What percentage of people do you think are date-able? Do-able? Marriage material?
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 08:22 PM by LostInAnomie
I would probably say about 33% are datable. 65% are do-able. And, 10% are marriage material.

What do you think your numbers are?

1. 15 datable, 20 do-able and 3-5 marriage-able.
But that's just considering my age, demographics and experience.

Oh, and tolerance for various types of absolute shit.

3. That would depend...
are we limiting the pool to the gender(s) of one's attraction?

If so, {50, 80, 1}.

Half those numbers if we're talking about the entirety of the human population of the Earth.

5. Someone once said
That given the entire human population, one person is compatible--in one way or another-- with about 10,000 others. But it's a big ol' world out there.

6. I wouldn't "do" anyone I wouldn't date.
When I have sex, it's with a person. Not just her body.

That said, I couldn't put a number on it. I don't know that many people to say considering the vast demographic that makes up "female" on this planet.

8. Hmmmm.
Maybe 40% datable. 55% do-able. Less than 1% marry-able.

9. Vanishingly small.
I have a prerequisite that eliminates 98.5% or something like that of society, then half of the remainder are excluded by my biology, so even before personality gets into it, we're talking less than one percent.

10. Depends on perspective.
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 10:59 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
At my age (advanced) and level of pulchritude (negligible), I'd take pretty much anyone with a pulse and no recent felony convictions. So I'd have to say 99% in all categories, from my perspective. However, from that of those who might consider dating, doing or marrying me, the percentages are, unfortunately, much lower. I think I would have to move the decimal point several places to the left.

:(

11. Well, as a male who was a stud muffin in his youth
but is now approaching 60 and is of no interest to anyone anymore, I would have to say that a whole bunch are do able, but most of them would bore me to death if I had to actually date them and I seriously doubt that 1% would put up with me long enough to sustain any facsimile of a Marriage.

12. Well, this goes back some years but using myself as a data point, it went like this:
Edited on Tue Jan-19-10 11:37 PM by NNadir
I happen to know that I slept with between 15 and 20 people before I was married. Probably I dated but didn't sleep with about twice as many people as I slept with.

Of these, a few, way less than the majority, were one night stands, but mostly I was in some kind of relationship of more than a few months with the rest. I'd have to say I mostly knew them pretty well.

Of these, there were two or three I might have married but didn't marry for one reason or another. I have lived to thank God that all my prayers have not been answered.

I did marry the one I could love better than all the rest, and that was a long time ago. With all of the failed relationships I'd had, I learned how to recognize the best.

What I have learned from this was that it was wise to wait for the right person.

Selfishly, now, I am hoping to die first, so I never have to worry again about dating. It sucked and my impression is that it is far more dangerous than it was when I was doing it.

I hope when I am dead, my wife will find someone nice easily, someone who loves her as I did.

My wife had serious relationships with about 5 people before she began to live with me. She went on a lot of dates, and had lots of guys, some of them married, hitting on her. (We used to get these love poems addressed to her from guys in the mail.)

It was my good fortune that they were all morons, making me look good by comparison. I did not, however, deserve my wife. She is way too good for me. She should have been more selective.

She did, however, know me pretty well when we became lovers. We had been friends for many years. When I first met her, I immediately wanted more than friendship, but she didn't, and I worked to be cool about it, because I didn't expect much in the first place. In retrospect, this worked out for the best, being close friends before being lovers. She is still my best friend.

15. Hmmm.
Dateable: 45% Do-able: 25%**

Marriage material? No idea, but I'm 40 and never-married, so....

**yes, my do-able percentage is much lower than my dateable percentage. That's because I treat dating as an audition process for those I might want to 'do." Some of the people I am initially attracted to fail in the dating process. And I'm sure I fail in the dating process for some "interviewers" too.
