There's a picture of a Great Lakes seaman carrying his belongings to his "room" aboard ship. After 45 years away from ships, it still seems strange to see landlubber terminology applied to them. I'll bet his "room" has "walls," a "floor," and a "ceiling," too. I'll bet he climbed a "stairway" to get to it.

I'm sorry about this but once you have it, it never goes away.
