My obsession with Buckwheat Zydeco
Every time I start drankin', I start listenin' to Buckwheat Zydeco. Due to the tragic loss of my CD collection (and recent reconsideration of my sobriety -- both events are quite possibly related), I have recently ordered $100 of worth of Buckwheat Zydeco albums.

So, how 'bout it: is popular Zydeco the finest musical achievement of mankind or not?

For me it doesn’t get any better than Lisa Haley and the Zydecats, I love her---and her music too.

5. Clifton Chenier was the King of Zydeco
He helped invent "modern" zydeco--here in Houston. Played it in the Frenchtown clubs to other homesick folks from Louisiana who'd come to Big Houston for work. I heard him many times back in the day.

But he's been gone for a while & it's great that the music continues.

6. He's playing in Vegas
In three weeks. I've already got a babysitter, a date, and a bottle of scotch. Cajun/Zydeco week at the Fremont Experience is one of the many (drunken) highlights of my year.
