Poll question: De-friending someone off of Facebook/Myspace
I have a facebook account but I really dont understand why people take it so seriously. I've heard people say that they are afraid to delete someone on facebook who may be a family member because its mean.

I really dont get it. Its just Facebook isnt it?

1. It may be "just facebook"

but unless you maintain regular friendly contact with that family member, it does sort of send a message, don't you think? And if you do maintain regular, friendly contact, then why would you unfriend in the first place? So, not hard to understand why that might create drama. ETA I thought this was just about family members. Just defriending people in general, it depends, of course. It's not that big of a deal to defriend someone you barely know that you haven't even been communicating with. But I can fully understand the person who's reluctant to defriend a family member. I wouldn't do it, unless that family member really pissed me off and it wouldn't be a surprise for them to see I was no longer on their friend list.

2. Depends if they're real friends or just facebook friends.
There are plenty of people that my only connection to them is through that website, so I don't really have any problem severing it if I don't want to hear from that person. I wouldn't defriend someone I was actually friends with. If I couldn't be friends with them online, then why would I want to be friends with them in real life.

3. Thanks for reminding me
I'm de-commissioning the old MySpace account right now. One of these "network" time sucks is enough!
