New Year

Let's toast a new year
and expect less fear
to dominate our
democratic state or
dictate our fate for
we pled a case for

living freer and living better
let's chart a course in
better weather, when the
environment is more pure
because we learned our Earth is
more
a machine for living than
any home we ever could know.

Let's raise a toast for
the things we could boast more
transparency in government and
grown-ups in the White House yet,
and also we could say

We've seen more accomplishments at play--
more attempts at legality,
frugality,
tax-sensitivity: the middle-class proclivity,
to reward the working guys--and the demise
of
the knee-jerk support of war,
the words "war on terror"--
what were they for?

We project to economize the health care struggle
by way of nationalizing it--
but why should anyone have a problem with it
when we make a national case of....
war.

And maybe we'll see our way clear
to dealing with our atmosphere,
there's a fond hope I trust.
I don't see it clearly now, but I must--

think we'll do much better with this planet,
and the things in it and on it, and damnit--

would it be too much if I talked about us? the
people of the tribe we call the "You-Ess"?
I want my everyday people, to step up and speak
to the real deficiencies in our culture
and our education--protect and build up
this nation by speaking about naturalism,
and realism instead of fanacticism.

Do the postive thing, and not the thing of dreams,
make a better world for tommorrow than what today seems.
