1. My husband and I decided that we will order pizza and
stay home.

I'm looking forward to it. NO pressure, no need to get all dressed up and spend money at an expensive restaurant.

Happy New Year.

21. 'Amateur night'. I hear ya.
I first heard that term from a buddy about 40 years ago.

Something along the lines of "We're pros. We enjoy a cocktail hour almost every day. We're pretty good at holding our booze, knowing our limits. We don't get shit-faced and climb in the car. New Year's Eve is amateur night when every yahoo who rarely drinks alcohol thinks they have license...nay, OBLIGATION, to get blotto, be obnoxious, and wind up wrapping their car around a tree, or worse.
They can have it. I'll stay in the neighborhood.
"

And that's pretty much what we've done ever since.
:-)

We're at our daughter's near Boston.
She and hubby are going out.
Miz t. and I are staying put with our grandkids and having a weenie roast in the fireplace. AND...we're toasting marshmallows and making S'MORES!
WooHoo!
:bounce:
Charlotte (2 1/2) and I will be in bed by nine at the latest.
Jack (7 1/2) and Miz t. will see the new year in...maybe.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

7. We are staying home. My daughter will stay home with us and her beau is coming
we will play board games, watch the ball drop and shoot off a festival ball at midnight followed by a champagne toast.

I am excited. I am making home made meatballs (in the oven now) and my famous cheese dip.

Cars were pulled over everywhere.

After that I stayed off the highways on New Years eve.

12. I may.
I like staying home on New Year's. I go out all the time. It's just another day as far as I am concerned, but yet places charge so much more money, have a limited menu and then you have to deal with all the crazy drunk people on the road. It's amateur night. And I am not an amateur. Me and my Stoli and 7 may be just staying home!!!!!

18. I'm not certain yet.
I'm supposed to go over my boyfriend's and hang out with him but he likely won't get home from work until about 10:30 and he has to be at work at 11 the next morning--that puts a damper on things, doesn't leave much time to spend. I'm keeping an eye on the weather report because they're expecting a storm that night or the next morning; if it's going to be sucky weather, I think I'll just stay home, watch the Stooges marathon, and chill.

we haven't gone out on NYE since before we had a kid. Some folks have open houses on NYD and sometimes we go to those. We should really have made plans to have folks over for dinner, since we have a ton of libation from Christmas Eve left over, as well as lots of sweets.

28. A friend wants me to go out
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 06:11 PM by hyphenate
but I'm not going. It's warmer at home, with the two kitties, and frankly, this one friend has no time for me when I would like to do something, only when it's convenient for him. I don't go out much anymore with the pain in my legs and stuff, and while I like to get out some time, it's not worth the hassle. I think I'm getting to a point where NYE is just another damned day, nothing special, nothing warranting celebration.

Yes, I'm a curmudgeon, a hermit, and depressed, but at least I don't question the motives of the four-legged contingent, just the two legged one.

Edit: years ago, my mom and I used to go to Zion National Park for the holiday. People used to ask me what was going on there, and I would always answer: "Nothing. Nothing but the moon and the stars, the canyon walls, peace, bliss and solitude." I wish I still lived on the West Coast for that one reason, but I can still remember those nights, and picture them in my mind. THAT'S a great way to celebrate--recharge the batteries and begin a fresh new year.

I was on the sober side of New Year's eve for far too long to have any inclination to go out and party now that I've stopped playing. It will be a nice dinner for the two of us followed by cuddling by the fire with the pup at our feet. We will probably be sound asleep long before the ball drops. :)

(Of course, I still haven't decided on tomorrow's menu so I should really get out of here and get cracking!)

gee, I can't remember when.

I don't like to get drunk (hangovers for me mean feeling as if an ax is lodged in my skull and puking literally all the next day, so I limit myself to two drinks), and I don't like crowded, noisy parties.

I plan to stay home and watch some of my backlog of videos. If I feel real festive, I may make myself a White Russian.

Only I can't.

I'm in the middle of switching psych meds and one is out of my system but the other hasn't kicked in yet, so I'm very manic. Plus, I just got the results of blood work I had done due to thyroid cancer and it turns out my thyroid hormone is way off, which the doctor said "could be causing your sleeplessness". So between the two I've slept less this entire month than I do during most weeks. :freak:
