Avatar or Sherlock Holmes?

I've pretty much wanted to see both movies since I saw the trailers.

I am blown away by the effects of Avatar from the trailer alone, and was impressed with Sam Worthington in T:4 and Zoe Saldana in the Star Trek film earlier this year. Also, I really have a love of splashy S/f blockbusters--so that's where I stand on that film (also, totally wanted to see it earlier, but was all snowed in and stuff....!!)

But in Sherlock Holmes' favor, I also have always liked pretty much anything Robert Downey Jr is in. I understand this take on the late Victorian classic series is more action-oriented and has a touch of steampunk-y flair--which I will doubtless enjoy, being an afficionada of steampunk and action.

Anyone seen both? I can only see one tomorrow--want to help me chose?

(Either way, I'll be writing a review of the film on my weird little blog, and will probably see the other the weekend following--if I can help it!)

1. Avatar's the kind of movie you definitely want to see in theaters

So if you don't get out to the movies much, I'd definitely go with that one. I loved it. I haven't seen Sherlock Holmes yet, but I have pretty much the same take it on as you and look forward to checking it out.
