27. I prefer Tranya
I once made a batch of melomel out of tree-ripened navel oranges and mesquite honey. It was so good, and resembled the liquid called Tranya, that I declared it to be Tranya.

4. He was great as Denny Crane on 'The Practice' last night.
73 and still going strong. The Denny Crane character is one of the strongest I've seen introduced on network TV in a long time. Well, since Spader joined the cast of the same show.

HBD Shat-Man!!!!

6. God, I hate William Shatner.
The only reason anyone still knows his name is because of a show that was on for what? One season? He's a horrible actor. He's the voice of a crappy internet travel agent too. Woo woo. I wish he'd just go away.

Mr. Shatner made a career out of not taking himself too seriously and you shouldn't either.

22. "Captain Quirk" proves how much he did take himself and his role seriously
:-( "airplane II" and some later TV roles show he's pretending not to be full of himself.

I kinda like some of the guy's motives, but he went too far. He's the star, he doesn't have to prove it by taking away from everybody else in the process. They're not a threat to him.

Leonard Nimoy's birthday is in March, too. Born the same year as Shatner - 1931.

Patrick Stewart. I think both are of fine vintage.

16. Ah Bill....a giant I tells yuh...
grown large on a forty year diet of scenery chewed like a beaver on crystal meth.
But when the wind blew high and the man in the white nightgown beckoned...when the curtain finally began to fall...when they matched Kirk up with Picard...just remember...and smile..because William "KH-AAN!" Shatner UNDERPLAYED Patrick Stewart and made a trained british thesp look like a ham!!
And with his dignity intact, Shatner departed the franchise with his head held high!

God bless him....

BTW, Check out "The Intruder" (1961) if you wanna see Shatner play a ruthless charismatic villain.

21. He's great as Kirk, but his personality is half noble yet half despicable
He always took scenes and dialogue from other actors, saying how he was the star and the show should focus on him. While he had a point, and there's nothing wrong with the concept of "the big three" (especially when there's a solid balance between the big three) he could have left some good scenes for the rest of the cast at times. But he always wanted it all... and that's a shame.

Also check out Nicholas Meyer's commentaries for Trek movies II and VI; he points out some of Shatner's dumber moves...

Shatner's ego is ultimately why many people hate him. Whether or not he's realized how horrible he's been is another story... The book "Captain Quirk" goes into Shatner's ego and his involvement in Trek in delicious depth. It's a must read for any fan, IMHO.

Incidentially, Shatner isn't the only asshole in the Trek continuum. Rick Berman used his clout to nix a Sulu-based TV series in the early 1990s. His claim that won over the execs? The show would break continuity. x( :grr:  DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and the godawful TNG movies have done far more to break continuity (continuity HE himself created no less!) than any other 23rd century series he'd otherwise never give a frack about.

And I wish Wil Wheaton had a better and better written part in TNG. In real life, he's the coolest of the group.

24. Happy Birthday Captain!
I grew up on Star Trek and damn it I want my United Federation of Planets and my replicator too.

If it were up to Captain Kirk, you know the Enterprise crew would violate the prime directive and intervene in this screwed up world. This one has definitely been corrupted.

Cheers Bill! :toast:
