Need ideas please. 16th b-day party....
My daughter is invited to a fancy-schmancy Sweet 16 B-day party tomorrow.

They are "rich" (money-wise, at least). *We* are not.

Any thoughts/suggestions for what to give the girl as a gift?

I'm thinking a 'clever', though not very expensive gift would fit the bill, but we're not that clever, alas.

Any good thoughts/ideas for a gift would be welcome.

TIA,
M_Y_H

1. what does she like?
What are her interests? What does your daughter and the other girl have in common?

2. She's not into sports......she's a 'theatre' girl.....
she's a great singer (chamber choir - the highest choir in the school - one must try-out for it and be accepted), she's into 'designer clothes/fashion', thin......

3. a cd, tickets to a performance,
a "vintage poster" of a past performer/production she likes - or a book on same.

never buy clothes, but if your daughter knows her taste, cute funky earrings/necklace - she could even make them herself! - but I don't think you have time for that. Something to consider in the future, though. My son has made jewelry for his female friends for years.

8. I agree with mzteris! I've been thinking about your post and

wondering if you live near a city or college. Most young people love new experiences, and some performances offer good student ticket prices.
My son gave his friend, when they were about 8, a small Lego set and an invitation to an upcoming interesting performance at the local college performing arts center. We really enjoyed it!
It was a bit of a splurge for my ticket, but for your daughter and her friend maybe you could drop them off and pick them up.

on edit- meant to add the other ideas are good, too!

4. Can I ask why you waited
until today to decide on a gift? When did you get the invitation?

6. Sure, pops! The answer is because I'm a single mom with
three teenage daughters who have a lot of life in them and need direction/advice/over-seeing. I have three part-time jobs that "aren't cutting the mustard", an 86 y/o mother who needs/gets my help, a neighbor who is away for the holidays that needs their driveway/walkway shoveled, mail taken in and plants watered (and it snowed last nite). A rich relative who went to the tropics for Christmas and I'm watching their dog, two cats, and a recently widowed gentleman has taken an 'interest' in me.....this 16 y/o's party ~ WHILE IMPORTANT ~ wasn't very high on my radar until this afternoon.

*Thanks* for your help/understanding (not).....

A LOT of people have more 'life' going on in their life than you do, obviously.

I appreciate the honest good suggestions for a nice gift for this girl from those that offered it. :hi:

9. You say you didn't mean for your question to be snotty, but it was, I quote:
Can I ask why you waited
until today to decide on a gift? When did you get the invitation?

The implication was that I should have been thinking about the gift from the moment I received the invitation.

I realized the from moment that my daughter got the invitation that it was kind of *futile*/ridiculous.

Sure, these girls can be friends, but our family is NO LONGER in the same strata that we used to be....AT ALL.

I don't appreciate having the added pressure of being expected to give some sort "Gucci" gift that would just impoverish our family more and not enrich the girl or the other family AT ALL!

10. That was a question

and a valid on, in my opinion. You took it in an entirely different direction. No one says you have to give a "Gucci" gift. Give money in a card (an amount you can afford) and be over it.
