How many names have you been called on the internet?

There is really only one insulting label I still can't tolerate,

but never mind about that.

I'm talking about a different kind of names though ... for a long time, it was a running joke for people on CIS, GEnie, IRC channels, etc. to come up with guesses as to what qnr really meant (I've been online in various ways since 1981).

19. The only one that comes to mind was being called a misogynist on DU.

I had mentioned being hurt (emotionally) by my wife at the time as she went through PMS. And I mean really gut-wrenching insults and so forth from her. It didn't matter to that DU-er that we made up afterward; I simply wasn't supposed to feel anything when she was going through that, so I was a woman-hater for being hurt by her tirade. :eyes:

20. There is such a disadvantage when we can't use the tone of our voice(s),

or other subtleties, during communication on a message board. I've learned this more & more recently. Seems misunderstandings pop-up when we least expect them to.

I got the impression I simply wasn't supposed to mention what I felt, or have feelings at all.

I don't remember if that happened in GD or LBN, but I am happy I eventually found the safe-havens of The Lounge and ASAH :D
