Guests show up half hour early.
They're a nice older couple in the neighborhood and she's sweet but clueless.
By 'older' I mean...my age.
;-)

We'd invited 3 couples for 1:30.
The doorbell rang at 1:00.
She: "Well Bill said we were s'posed to come at 1:30 but I said well we're ready to go now and we'll just go on a little early and I'll help Helen." (Miz t.)
Bill: "I tried to tell her it was for 1:30, but nooooo."

Not a big deal.
Miz t. is ALWAYS ready an hour before guests are due, anyway.
I made Mimosas and we chatted until the rest of the guests arrived at the appointed time.

2. I would have put them BOTH to work!
Something tedious like shelling walnuts.

3. Well, she had a heart valve replacement two weeks ago.
So we kinda took it easy on her.

4. I'm like Miz T. I 'm mostly ready an hour before guests arrive
and if early birds offer to help I'll give them something to do.
Yes, we all know that it's impolite to show up so early but some people are just like that and if I keep inviting them back, I'd best expect them before the alloted time.

I'd rather deal with a few early guests than the chronically late variety.

8. Our closest friends are ALWAYS late.
I think it may be genetic.
They're Brits, but I don't know if that has anything to do with their tardiness.
We just invite them to arrive about 30 minutes before everyone else.
Works well.

13. One of my childhood friends (RIP) was widely known for saying he was "on his way" as he was getting
into the shower, half an hour after he was supposed to arrive at one of our group functions.

6. You do entertain a lot for a man of a certain age :)
and you do it with style and grace. Congratulations on being such a nice host and a gentleman.

7. We have a lot of friends in our neighborhood.
There are about 80 families, mostly retired couples, and we're pretty tightly knit.
Our close 'fun' friends were all out of town.
I have to say our guests were three of the most boring couples we know.
But they were at loose ends for Thanksgiving, so we just rounded up all the 'strays'.
It was a nice afternoon, anyway.
:-)

10. That really pisses me off when people do that.
It's way too fucking hard to entertain people who can't wait another few fucking minutes AND get everything finished before the guests arrive at the PROPER time.

It's so damn rude.

11. We observe the 'fashionably late' custom.
ALWAYS arrive 5-10 minutes past the appointed time.
Miz t. sez it gives the hostess a few minutes to 'settle' herself before guests arrive.
This may be a 'Suthrun gentility' thang.

12. Same here...and really wish people would all do the same when they
are coming to my house...I can always use a few extra minutes to have it all "perfect". :)
