Joe Perry: Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith
Tyler, 61, suffered broken shoulder in fall from a stage in August

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said today that singer Steven Tyler quit the band following a recent concert in Abu Dhabi.

Bassist Tom Hamilton told the Boston Herald’s Inside Track that there is dissension among the “Bad Boys From Boston,” but that he hopes things can be worked out. He dismissed a report that guitarist Brad Whitford discussed the possiblity of Aerosmith finding a new frontman.

However, Perry told the Las Vegas Sun today that he believes Tyler is history.

“Steven quit as far as I can tell,” Perry said from his Boston home. “I don’t know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don’t know.”
Part of the problem, he says, is that Tyler doesn’t return his phone calls.

“He’s notorious for that,” Perry said. “That’s one thing I’ve learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. Frankly, the last few months I’ve been wanting not to rock the boat. I don’t want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We just kind of didn’t want to call him out or anything and get him anymore pissed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie. So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this online. That’s how I know about it.”

5. I think Perry has always wanted payback for the Perry-less Aerosmith...
...and the funniest part about that "Rock In A Hard Place" album was that they replaced Perry and Whitford with two guys who looked like their TWIN BROTHERS.

I'm SURE it was deliberate.

Not their best album, but 1000 times better than the regrettable "Just Push Play."

17. Absolutely!
Here's Tyler without Perry doing a kick ass song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLA6MHtklIw

If he could make music like this again i would be very happy.

3. You can tie as many scarves on the walker as you want
but Steven's performing days are done. At his age, a broken shoulder takes about 18 mos to revover from.

4. Aerosmith turned into AeroShit about 20 years ago, so it's time to call it a day already.
The minute they started using outside songwriters (the same ones Michael Bolton and Celine Dion use, no less) and bringing Britney Spears and N'Suck on stage with them, they lost all credibility.

Ironically, they were a much better band when they were on drugs.

6. Amen to that.
"Rocks" was...and still is...my favorite Aerosmith album.

"Rats In The Cellar"...IMHO...was the track where they finally nailed that Jeff Beck / Yardbirds thing they'd been chasing. When they actually DID a Yardbirds song ("Think About It" on "Night In The Ruts," the last album before Perry & Whitford's exit) it didn't sound half as much like the Yardbirds as "Rats In The Cellar" did.

8. the heroin and cocaine addicted.....
aerosmith created "toys...toys...toys...in the attic..."(bangs head and lights a bic..)...the clean and sober band created "it's am-maaaaa-aa-aa-zing..."
i don't want to say anything bad about sobriety, but...

i've been telling people the same thing for 20 years too....

29. Same time frame
My seriously drug addled roommate used to hang out with JP about that time. I think they lived in an apt on Commonwealth in Brighton. I'm sure it was a madhouse.

Ironically, I just finished watching Spinal Tap 20 minutes ago.

25. Apparently she thought for many years that Rundgren was her dad
but finally found out it was Tyler.

Her mother, Bebe Buell, was a noted groupie.

20. When the frontman injures himself badly enough to cancel a whole tour his time is obviously up
Aerosmith has been musically irrelevant and worthless since the 90s.

24. They should've broken up years ago.
"I Dont Want To Miss A Thing" and the horrible super bowl halftime show pretty much marked the beginning of the end for them.

28. I'm going to see Joe Perry play on Saturday night.
He's doing a solo project now, an album and some shows. I'm looking forward to the show, curious to see what he'll be doing.
