1. Volunteers are the best. This country can't surivive without them.
I do volunteer for my church, the local animal no kill shelter, and the stewpot community (or in other places it is called soup kitchen). Gotta give back. Got to.

:hi:

5. just curious
you started a nice thread, interesting and a thoughtful topic

why ruin it attacking another DUer who posts fun things? If you don't like it or don't find it to your taste, ignore them. You damage your own thread with strange jealosy or some odd reaction to another person...I don't get it.

3. I dedicated two years of my life to Americorps
Unlike most freeptards (there are some freeptards that do but have found most to be self centered )I love my country and think it is every citizen's duty to give back. I built a low income environmentally friendly energy conserving house as well as help to install wheel chair ramps and make low income family's homes more energy efficient there by saving them money. I have also helped to build and maintain trails as well as maintained habitats for the Golden Warbler and help teach kiddos about gardening. Americorps was the best experience of my life and encourage all young adults to join. right now I am taking care of my mom and do not have much free time. Volunteering makes me feel like a whole person

The AmeriCorps Pledge

I will get things done for America -
to make our people safer,
smarter, and healthier.

I will bring Americans together
to strengthen our communities.

Faced with apathy,
I will take action.

Faced with conflict,
I will seek common ground.

Faced with adversity,
I will persevere.

I will carry this commitment
with me this year and beyond.

I am an AmeriCorps member,
and I will get things done.

actually platelets and white cells. About 20X a year.

Plus we do mentoring and are very active in the administration of the program.
And we are very active in the local political scene.

7. When I was freshly single I volunteered at the aids foodbank
it really helped me adjust to the single life. They banned clients from distributing food so I was laid off.lol

I did enjoy it though. If I were to volunteer again, I would work at a veterinarian's office. They need people to help keep the animals calm when they first wake up from surgery.

8. Love volunteering!
I volunteer for our local crisis center. :hi:

And here's a kick for your thread, it is true volunteering has a more positive social impact than burping. It would be nice if there was a place for both here at the lounge.
