Worst movie based on an SNL skit (or character)?
A poll is practically inevitable, assuming there's any interest. I managed to duck most of these, so I don't think I can make an intelligent suggestion, though I think Senator Smalle-- I mean Franken may have a contender. Your thoughts?

6. That was my first thought, but did anyone actually see this?
I mean how would anybody know? (Also there was that "Superstar" thing. And I thought "A Night at the Roxbury" was based on a skit, too. P.U.)

daughter's love for that unfunny Farley guy were two big laughs in a whole lot of nothing.

It didn't suck back in 1994, perhaps. But today...

13. They seem to be trending downwards these days
In chronological order based on Tomatometer ratings:

(Yeah, that's a zero (0) for "It's Pat.")

14. I can't believe Wayne's World is the most popular
The only part I chuckled slightly is early in the film he says (paraphrasing) 'I'm going to play this CD' (something like that) and it's a cassette tape. After that I was bored to tears.

My vote goes to Blues Brothers but WW should be on par or lower with Night at the Roxbury.

15. I always disliked the WW skits, so avoided the movie
but happened to catch the "Scooby Doo ending" bit (though for all I remember, this might be the sequel) and thought that was funny at least.

Maybe because I could "relate" - as Stuart would say with finger quotes. ;)

36. I was so disappointed, because I loved his Stuart sketches...
But it did not translate well into a feature-length, in my opinion.

20. What's wrong with SNL skit-to-pictures? What goes wrong is they give them a point.
What's funny about the skits is that they have no point. You see someone and can't tell their gender, so you obsess about it. The humor in that situation is that you're worrying about something that doesn't matter. It's small ha-ha, but then it's only a skit so it only has to be a small one. But if you make a whole movie about it, there's a tendency to try and give it a point. That's what killed these movies, almost none of which I've actually seen, but I've seen other movies following the same formula. The point: the big show down with the creep trying to shut down the amusement park/ knock down the bowling alley for condos/ buy out the summer camp grounds/ or whatever the rich conceited villain character is trying to do while putting the moves on the lovable-loser hero's long-suffering girlfriend. When you force that kind of phony showdown onto a pointless skit character, you turn it into a big yawn.

Rather like this post I'm writing.

The exceptions seem to be the Wayne's World and Blues Brothers movies. Blues Brothers stayed pointless--it was over the top and the bad guys were Henry Gibson and a bunch of Illinois Nazis (you can never go wrong with that formula). Wayne's World followed the basic phony big-showdown-with-the-cheering-audience formula, but the charm of the movie was the two losers' friendship (plus seeing a nerd like Mike Myers get a Bond girl).
