1. COOL! What time zone?
I loved listening to that as a kid. It's just brilliant. I was fascinated as well by the story of how terrified people were by it when it originally broadcast, even though they frequently said it was radio theater. I guess it was an early example of how powerful the media is as a projective field for people's fears.

Do tell me the time zone; I just might tune in.

2. I would _love_ to get a recording, pod-cast, whatever, of that.
Not hinting, dude or dudette as the case may be, just saying that this is something that is really hard to find. Enjoy!

14. Welles was a real genius
as I pointed out in another War of the Worlds thread, he correctly predicted what the audience would do...switch over to his show at the first commercial break of his competitor, which is the precise time he cut in with his "This just in" news segment.

17. He knew what it was
He said it was a radio show that he and his friends listened to regularly. The dance music came on and they thought it had been cancelled, but when they started in on the the invasion from Mars, they knew it was their regularly-scheduled show. He says, by the way, that they did NOT announce what the show really was before the broadcast. He went on to become a well-known science fiction writer in the 40s and 50s writing under the name of William Tenn and often gave a wonderful talk at science fiction conventions about listening to the War of the Worlds. I'm afraid his health is declining rapidly, though.
