Clinton 'Asylum of Terror' haunted house angers N.J. mental-health advocates

CLINTON -- Every fall, the Red Mill Museum here hosts a haunted house. But this year’s "Asylum of Terror," has angered mental health advocates who said the theme perpetuates ugly stereotypes.

The show, which ends today, warns visitors of hopeless, mindless and deranged patients lurking in dark corners ready to lunge.

Yet,not a peep about the silence of the lambs or hannible.Some of these people need to get a grip.

Maybe some of these haunted houses should be rated like movies...PG PG-13 and R.

The asylum has been fodder for horror for decades. Advocacy is one thing, but creating a controversy in the absence of one is quite another.

Seriously, does anyone actually think that asylum patients are anything like their portrayal in horror?

2. We had a similar situation out here with, of all things, a donut shop

Seriesly. It's called "Psycho Donuts", and it's basically a copycat of Voodoo Donuts in Portland. Waitstaff dress up in nurse uniforms, and you get to eat in the padded "Group Therapy Room", and so on.

Originally, they featured such delicacies (?) as the "Bipolar" and the "Massive Head Trauma" (a jelly donut with plenty of red jelly oozing out :puke: ). Fortunately, activists here, led by my new employer, were able to get them to curb some of those excesses.
