My partner is from Tennessee. I now speak with her accent. It seems to make me lose a hundred IQ points in some people's minds....

Edited to add: We met online. The first time I talked to her on the phone, I heard that accent and thought, "she's a hick!" But I lost that prejudice in about thirty seconds when I thought about the sophisticated and intelligent woman I'd fallen in love with. I know well that Southerners are not idiots, and in that moment I lost all my prejudice.
