Du Cat lovers: Are you owned by a calico or tortoiseshell?
I have a tortie named Ophelia, and one of these days I have to get a digital camera so that i can post pics. Tell us about your tortie or calico. Pictures welcome, of course. :)

3. I had a tortie named Alice.
She was a sweet little thing. She picked me when I went to the animal shelter looking for a kitten -- as I was walking by the cages she stuck her paw out and patted me, so of course I took her. She liked to retrieve toys and pounce on me from behind the furniture.

15. That is how my childhood kitty Radar picked us
He was a kitten and was so happy to see us approach the glass. Once we started walking away he started pacing and crying. We adopted him and took him home. He had an oral fixation and he used to suck on my neck at night and leave little hickies! He had a good full life. :-)

She was my sister's cat originally but they had dogs that were bothering here so I adopted her. Sweetest kitty every! She never EVER scratched or bit even in play..

She was quite the talker though!:)

6. I don't currently have any calicos in the kitty batch, but
every calico/tortie I've ever known has had a major 'tude. I love it! They are so feisty and funny. :loveya:

7. oh my cat has that 'tude too
I've never known a cat that was THAT quick to hiss at anything. Try to interact with her when she doesn't want to and you get a hiss, maybe a swat, and she scurries under the bed. "Meh!" is her favorite "Don't bother me!" phrase, LOL.

baby came to us as a kitten. she was a stray and the day my dad first met her, she walked up to him in the drive way and jumped up so that her back would brush his hand. she was such a sweet thing.

she died in 1995 or 96, i think.

11. One of each. Amber the Calico, Riddle the Tortie.
It's not ownership, though, it's mutual alliance.

Riddle is bigger now.

Anastasia (calico) walked on on us right before Thanksgiving dinner one year. Seriesly! She would watch nature shows with birds in them quite intently, tail going back and forth.

Later there was Buddi (tortie). Once while I was moving, mom couldn't find me. So Buddi pawed at the closet where I took the air matteress. This told Mom I was at the new place!

Calicos and torties are the feminists of the cat world. "Look at my three colors. Hear me purr!"

14. This is my girl calico kitty named Daniel
I was just fostering, but I adopted her eventually. We aren't sure exactly how old she is..she is twenty something. My ex has had her since he was a teen. My ex not knowing that most calicos are girls thought she was a boy and gave her a boy's name. Then one morning he woke up to a litter of kittens. Wouldn't that be a shock? Thinking your cat is a boy and not even noticing she was pregnant until the kittens are born? WOW!!

She sleeps most of the time, still eats and drinks..uses the litterbox..Barney my male kitty is always picking on her! That is like watching some punk kid picking on an elderly lady. It's so upsetting. :-(..He doesn't hurt her, he just rings her bell by running up to her and touching her.

Anyway, she is warm and happy for the most part. Here she is!!

18. From 1993-2005
Her name was B.B. She was a dilute tortoiseshell and the sweetest cat on the planet. I also tended to a feral tortie named Tigger--until I had to move and leave her. :-( I tried to make her an indoor kitty, but it didn't work. I still feel horrible about leaving her, and that was 10 years ago. But, not much I could do. I was lucky she let me pet her. Forget sticking her in a crate and forcing her to live in an apartment...

Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 04:56 PM by Rob H.
She's more my dad's cat than anyone's, and she's extra pointy 'cause she's a polydactyl. Here she is taking it easy on my parents' sofa:
