Polo in ... Alabama? Yep.
And y'all thought we wuz just a buncha ignernt redneck yahoos.
Hell, we got CLASS too!
;-)

Where it all began...

Ed Bernard and Wilson Greene brought Polo to the Mobile (AL)/ Eastern Shore area in the early 70’s. Kenny McLean and George Radcliff were key supporters of the growing club. Even though Ed, Kenny and George no longer play, they continue to be involved in polo at Point Clear.

Point Clear Polo, as it is known today, has evolved through the decades. Many professional players and amateurs alike now consider Point Clear one of the best places in the country to visit and play polo. Point Clear Polo is steeped in tradition. Most of our founding members are still playing polo today. More importantly, the next generation is also taking to the sport with vigor.

1. There's polo in Hawai'i, too
for many years the Yale polo team featured players from Punahou, President Obama's alma mater, which was at the time basically a feeder school for Yale.

2. South Carolina, too...
Aiken is a big horse town. Lots of thoroughbreds race horses train here. There's also a polo field with regular games.

3. I worked for various polo teams in Santa Barbara during the summers
in my early twenties, mostly caring for the horses and conditioning them...very fond memories of the epic matches at the Polo & Racquet Club and the various people I worked for. A great sport that requires great skill to keep horses and riders safe.

5. No no, I would think right away. Polo in Alabama? Yes, as there
are horses and land, and plenty of space for polo. Ergo.
But I still think ya all er a bunch ah ignerent rednick biget, ah, what else, oh, yahoos. Yes indeed.
Class, yeah, you got class. In the words of the immoral Slip Mahoney, 'ya got class, reeeaalll class.'
