Here is where the debate starts. Who Dey vs Who Dat. Saints fans trace Who Dat back to the late 1970's and even have Saint's merchandise and promotional items from Rally's Hamburgers (that's Checkers to some of you.) to prove it. Also, Who Dat was a prominent cheer among Louisiana high school football teams in the 1960's and 1970's. Prior to that, it was used in vaudeville, then later Jazz. On a side note. When you think of jazz what comes to mind? Louis Armstrong? Wynton Marsalis? If you just said Utah!!!, then please leave now. Where were the Utah Jazz prior to moving to exciting Salt Lake City, and refusing to change their name, which was completely inappropriate for Salt Lake City? That's right. New Orleans. Birthplace of Jazz. Back to my point. Who Dat was a common cheer for Southern University in Baton Rouge also. The differentiation Who Dey may have originated from a local Cincinnatti beer, Hudepohl. Hudy was common at the stadium and late in the game drunk Bengals fans used to call for more by yelling, "Huuuudeyyy!!!" Also, there was a local dealership that had a commercial that would ask, "Who's gonna give you a better deal. Noooboooddyyyyy. It grew from there.
