4:45 am, true story, just now...I locked myself out of my hotel room. Naked.
I'm staying in a 'casita' at a Palm Springs resort.

It takes a card key to get into the private patio AND to get into your room from the patio.

I went out to the patio for a middle of the night for look at the stars and a smoke.

No need for clothes for this, none, it's very warm.

I made the mistake of letting the door close behind me.

Outside, naked, no card key, no phone, no car keys (I have a pair of shorts in there).

All I had available in the patio was my briefcase.

In the briefcase was a Swiss Army Knife.

I was worried that I'd have to wait and watch for the bike security to roll by and explain my pathetic situated.

I am back in my room.

:P

1. Humph . . . now how
can we believe a story like that without pictures.

Maybe you could send us one of your (ahem) briefcase.

2. A pic of the knife and the mangled door lock would be sufficient
:D

Next time, take your camera with you

3. One of the casement windows was not locked....
Some jiggling got it opened more and more with some rocking.

The crank handle inside room popped off at one point.

Which is where the pliers on the Swiss knife saved the day.

I'm glad I didn't have to use it to smash glass.

:P

7. lol. The saddest part was me climbing through, my knees don't bend as far as they once did...
Fuck, I'm soooo happy that window wasn't locked.

The locksets are super-duty weather proof.

I would have been fucked having to ask for a new card key.

10. Mayby later. Here's a bird's eye view...
I'm in a unit just above the '11', upper right, little L-shaped walled yard.

I'd have had to walk naked all the way to the office, number '1'.

The only fabric around is the blue umbrella.

I'm lucky I didn't have to make a scene.

It wouldn't have been pretty. :P

12. Except for cats, the Lounge doesn't do pretty.
Well, with the umbrella you could have bs'ed that you were practicing for your night club act.

for the late-night hotel desk staff to talk about for years & years....

;)

Trust me, they've seen everything.

19. PICTURES of the scene of the nearly tragic series of events.
Warm Starry Evening-- Who wouldn't want to go outside nekkid???

Site Plan:
Upper right of page, just above the "11", there is a unit with L-Shaped yard.
You need a card key to get into the yard, then again to get into the unit.

View of the door that I let close, with everything locked in the room.
Beyond the open door is the casement window, one of which was unlocked and would open about one inch.
A little work got it to open a bit more.

The rest of the day promises to be an improvement...
I'm going to get an extra key and hide it outside.

:P

27. if it takes a card key to get into the private patio
as well as back into your room from the patio why not just keep the key with you? Slide it inside the cellophane of your pack of smokes? I'm curious why it requires a key in both directions. Isn't that a fire escape?

21. Exactly! My Swiss Army Knife Saved the Day!
All I had was a briefcase on the table with.... a Swiss Army knife with pliers.

Once I got my arm in far enough to reach the crank, the handle came off.

I needed the pliers to crank the window all the way open!

23. My dear NYC_SKP!
I'm both laughing and cringing!

I wonder why it is I've never gotten locked out of anything?

I guess my life is just too damn predictable and boring, is why!

Glad you were able to get back in, sweetie!

24. Hey! Well, was I locked 'out', or was I locked 'in'?
Locked out of technology and comfort and cell phones and artificial air conditioning and clothing?

Locked in to naturism, beautiful air, and the stars above???

29. It's the little things and events that make life worth living.

I laugh, not out of malice but in a shared joke over the human experience.

Embarrassment is one of the best/worst teaching tools the universe throws at us.
