God that movie gave me the willies, when I first saw it years ago.

Robert Mitchum scared the bejeebus right out of me.

2. Makes my hair stand straight up when he says that,

Rev. Harry Powell, one of the most evil characters ever portrayed on the silver screen.

"I can hear you whisperin' children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience children. I'm coming to find you now."




Still makes my skin crawl.

3. And the cinematography is stunning, too.

Especially the scenes on the boat and river.

5. EXCELLENT movie. I had already seen on my first visit to Kentucky.

My cab driver had LOVE tattooed on one hand and HATE on the other. I hadn't known people ACTUALLY did that.

Obviously, I kid.

One of the great performances. Mitchum wanted to push it even further, but Laughton warned him that he may want to return to leading man roles.
