So how does McDonald's Green initiative make you feel about them?
They now have:

- An environmentally friendly supply-chain (one that other fast food joints are looking to emulate)
- They buy from sustainably managed fisheries
- They don't buy beef from cattle suppliers who destroy rainforests
- They have almost completely eliminated their Styrofoam packaging

Yeah, I know, I'm supposed to hate McDonalds with every fiber in my being. Because they make cheap food that tastes good.

Granted, I am under no illusions that their food is nutritious - and neither are they. The CEO himself says McDonalds should not be a staple, but a treat. Just like a doughnut or ice cream.

1. McD's is about as green as a dog turd in a swimming pool.
Fuck McD's. It is all PR - don't be fooled.

That said, the Ronald McDonald House is an anomaly. It is a screaming good charity. It is just too bad that it is associated with such a fucked up restaurant chain.

2. Burger King was always the worst offender on rainforest beef
As for the fisheries, I recently saw an article about the hoki, a spectacularly ugly, and now overfished, New Zealand bottomfish that is (or has been) the staple in McD's Filet-O-Fish.

4. Phony.
I remember a B.Kliban cartoon of an old man at an assembly line, stamping smiley faces on bombs. This is the same sort of thing.

It's better that they try than to ingnore it, but it's truly not being done for the reasons we wish. Take what we can.

9. Well, you would, wouldn't you? I'll add that I'm among the four percent
of Americans who haven't eaten at Mc Donald's in the last year...I'd rather go hungry.

6. It's been years (decades?) since I've eaten there, and I've managed to
thrive without them.

11. They are always at the front of corporate trends:
They're declaring themselves "green" in a totally unaudited (and unauditable) fashion.

All they need to do is to hire Amory Lovins to give them a "green stamp" of approval for a small, um, consulting fee of a few million dollars.

For an extra million, Amory will prattle on endlessly about how car CULTure consumers "could" drive to McDonald's "by 2050" in hydrogen HYPErcars.

I'm glad to hear they're improving their behavior, but it won't make me eat there any more often than my lifelong infrequent pattern...

15. It makes me think of them as a purveyor of cheap, not that healthy guilty pleasure food...
.....which is how I felt about them before.

But I do like me a good Big Mac.

I rarely eat there, though. I do like their fries and cheese burgers...
