Fall colors as if they were from some tourist brochure (but really from my B-I-L)
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 03:33 PM by DFW
Here I am sitting in Switzerland, with some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere, but it's cold, cloudy, rainy,
and I'm lucky if I can see anything that ISN'T grey. Then, from western New Jersey, my brother-in-law sent me these
stunning photos from a small lake where he lives. He's making me just a little jealous. Where's an Alp when you need one?
(or, on the other hand, with scenery like this, who needs Alps?)

If I could take photos like that, I'd be selling $125 photo albums at Borders!

1. Very nice!
Are you suggesting there isn't much fall color in Switzerland?

3. I'm telling you for a fact that there was none in Zürich today!
I was out in the east (Gossau, St. Gallen) last Monday, and the Alps were visible in all their splendor,
and the foliage was eye candy, too. But today, it was just la misère, and in contrast with these photos,
for this one time, NJ wins hands down.

I guess NJ is much more than Tony Soprano and chemical plants. :)

How is Switzerland, BTW? Are you visiting or do you live there?

4. NJ is definitely more than chemical plants
I have never seen "The Sopranos"--heard about it, of course.

I live less than an hour's flight north of here, in the Düsseldorf area (when I live anywhere other than airports
and secure windowless rooms, that is) when I'm on station here in Europe, but I travel constantly, and I had stuff
to do in Switzerland this week.

Switzerland is its usual clean, tranquil, expensive, staid, boring, beautiful self (when the fog and the rain clouds
clear away, that is). But I have some friends here, and they always appreciate an American who has bothered to learn
their very unique version of German, so I usually get a warm welcome here.

5. My dear DFW!

Oh, these are wonderful!

We don't have anything like this in the part of CA that I live in...

Of course, then there's the snow and ice that follows these glorious scenes! Which is a good thing, because otherwise I'd want to live there.

Thank you for sharing...

6. They need the snow and ice
It kills off some of the mosquitoes that show up the next summer--not all of them, but a good 4-5% of them (i.e. NOT ENOUGH!! LOL)

14. This time, I'm in Zürich
When I was here earlier in the week, I was out in Gossau/Herisau/ST. Gallen, in the east.
The weather was gorgeous then, and the scenery was, too. Today, all you could see was the
umbrella of the frustrated pedestrian in front of you.

9. Greenwood Lake?
I used to live in Northern NJ, just wondering. Greenwood Lake would be full of motor boats in summer, this looks very peaceful.

12. It is very peaceful, and no, no motor boats
Glen Wild (I think that's how they spell it) Lake, near Bloomingdale (may even be within the town limits).
The road that winds around the lake shore would make even a mountain goat stage a protest for unfair working
conditions.

11. You may have to check the spelling
But they call it Glen Wild Lake. It's in or near Bloomingdale, NJ.
