I would like to talk to a normal person
if I might please. I can recognize a normal person very easily. For instance: What if I asked you to tell me your precise energy saving settings on your PC at this moment? If you were to report those settings without looking, I doubt I would find that normal coming from a normal human being. Therefore, would anyone normal mind pulling up your control panel, clicking on 'display', then clicking on 'screensaver', then looking at the power settings, and tell me what the normal run-of-the-mill basterd's power settings should be?

You may be wondering why I ask such a fool question. A normal person would be curious to know why I'm asking. But I wish you wouldn't. If you know what I mean.

4. I looked it up, but be warned
I would never call myself normal.

That said, my "scheme" is at Desktop and the hard drive never powers down, nor is standby active.

I have my monitor set to go off if idle for 5 minutes though.

7. Just when the normal power is on
Do you have any minutes for Standby or Hibernate? You have 5 minutes wait time for the Monitor, but how about the Disk Drive? I would like to set mine on the average PC settings again. My PC has done some wild things since changing settings.

10. No, I don't use hibernate or turn the disks off
but that's just me because of how impatient I can be. When I want to access my disk, I want it NOW, not 1 or 2 seconds later! (lol... yes, I'm pathetic)

11. Thanks for checking.
Wishing now that I hadn't messed with the settings.

13. Mine are like so:
System Standby after 15 minutes
System hibernates after 20 minutes

Monitor: Never
Disk power: Never

The problem I'm having is that the screen is completely black after leaving it awhile and touching any key doesn't bring it back on. So I have to power the PC off and reboot the system again to get a screen to come back.

14. What does it say on the Advanced tab?

Sometimes in the Bios settings there's a specific key you need to hit to bring it back from hibernate, maybe that's what got changed? Have you looked in your bios settings?

You don't say what OS, but if WinXP, maybe look here:

15. Could not locate BIOS settings
or where to find those settings. I do have XP and I will continue looking for those setting because it sounds like a reasonable place to check. Thanks again.

18. Try updating your monitor driver
Something similar happened to me with my laptop, couldn't get the screen back after closing the lid.

I downloaded and reloaded the driver for the monitor and the problem was fixed.

Good Luck!

8. All I know is that Skype saps my computer's energy and that
I have to disable it every time I reboot.

I also know that it's time to get some sleep before the early alarm tomorrow.
