2. Small snake on our sidewalk--
it's going to be in the 40's tonight. Relocate him under a bush, or bring him in (in a jar with breathing holes) and take him to a nature center tomorrow? We are not set up to take care of a snake, but could try.

I know...most people wouldn't give a damn....

3. Snakes hibernate.
If it's a garter snake it will find a burrow with a bunch of other snakes and stay there for the winter. I think if you leave the snake alone it should be able to manage.

4. I agree with Ocelot.
You might get it off the sidewalk so others won't bother it but if it's a native species it's doing what snakes do. If it's healthy it'll find a place to dig in for winter and if not it won't survive. Good of you to be helpful.

6. he was a cold little "icky" thing!
I actually like snakes.....I know....most people don't! But, s/he just looked so chilly, and there are neighborhood kitties....
