How damn expensive was that lady's dress on that Chase Saphire Card commercial?
You know, the one where her husband suggests that they go on some amazing trip using the points they've accumulated using their credit card. Then, she says they can't because she used them to buy her new dress.

Jesus fucking Christ! How fucking expensive was that dress?

1. I have wondered that myself
especially since it reminds me of the Sweeney Sisters from snl.

2. I've wondered that. I've also wondered what kind of relationship they have
in which such self-absorbed behavior would be considered cute...

4. It's a card designed and marketed to customers to rival the Visa Black card...
Basically you can't get that card unless you have absolutely-ideal (not perfect! They want people who will pay but also rack up a lot of charges and late fees) credit from their standpoint or have over $150K in their bank. The sort of people for whom such self-absorbed behavior is undertaken with as much economic thought as littering.

7. A loving and successful marriage, maybe?

8. A loving and successful marriage in which one partner consumes the resources of both
without regard to the other? I'm still waiting for the follow-on to this commercial ending in "divorce from the selfish shopaholic harpie? Priceless."

11. Yes but it's an ad, not real life.
In reality it's doubtful that someone who was so excited by the prospect of using points for a free trip really would have shrugged it off so easily when he found out that his wife used them for an expensive rag.

3. That dress costs $15K.
Fashion dork, strange for a guy...but true in my case.

5. So it's a real recognizable dress, not just a prop for a commercial?
Who designed it, or where is it from?

6. It's bespoke or heavily-tailored.

She's not an ideal build (while thin she has more hip and breast to her than the average runway model that those sorts of things are designed for.)...I have no idea who the designer is, I can roughly price it because I can tell that it's the result of several hours of hand-sewn labor to fit her perfectly. Ready-to-wear(ie. anything off a hanger designed to wear without substantial alterations) doesn't fit that flawlessly. Also I Googled it and that was the price that other people came up with for it as well...which is to say I cheated.

Good tailors and seamstresses for that grade are worth a bloody fortune...I dated a fashion industry seamstress (she did the on-the-fly alterations for runway modeling) once and she worked about 10 hours a week and spent money like she was printing it in her back-closet. She was very protective of her shears too.

10. I think the "point" is that she used up the points to use TOWARDS that mini-vacation...
not the points would EQUAL the money spent
on said vacation...but yes, it left a sour
taste in my mouth, too.

Effective advertisement?

Yes, because we remember it.

No, because I don't remember the name of the
specific CARD and because even the SUGGESTION
that her dress cost as much as a vacation left
me cold.
