Poll question: Will there finally be a Freeway Series this year? (Dodgers vs. Angels...
...or as some would have it, LA vs. quasi-LA.)

1. Yanks-Dodgers
You saw it here first.

Torre sneaks out one on his old team in 6.

Gee, I'm so glad the Cardinals fired Torre so we could end up with Tony "let me make 400 pitching changes per game even if that means taking out a successful reliever to put in a dumbass who's going to give up 3 runs and blow the game" LaRussa.

34. Which reminds me
why on earth put in the recently inept Ryan Frankin to close out Game 2 when you have Hall of Fame closer John Smoltz, who's not going to start anyway, sitting in the bullpen?

I really don't care who's in. Be good to have at least one west coast team though.

Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 10:11 PM by KamaAina
contorted name notwithstanding, the Angels play in freakin' Anaheim. Read the beginning of Fast Food Nation for details (it's the home of Carl of Carl's Jr.) Rally monkeys, Thunderstix (TM), and another victory parade in the midst of suburbia... deliver us, O baseball gods!

edit: spacing

8. This Dodgers fan concurs
Although I am hoping the Angels kick the Yankees' collective asses.

Here in L.A. there was a billboard campaign for the Dodgers that started up the same year the Angels changed their name to "L.A. Angels of Anaheim". It simply stated "This Is L.A. Baseball." It was a direct reminder to the pretenders of Orange County - who spend 99% of the time denigrating L.A. and everything about it - just how asinine the name really is.

(And yes, we know the franchise was once in L.A., but that was damn near 50 years ago - should we start calling the Dodgers "The Brooklyn Dodgers of Los Angeles"?)

20. I don't
I blame the owners. My sister-in-law and her husband are Angels fans, and they don't mind me calling the team by their only accurate name, "The Anaheim Angels".

23. That was almost as bad as their current name
Damn presumptious to claim a state as large and diverse as California. I was pleased when they acknowledged reality and changed their name to Anaheim.

36. Yes, you should call them the Brooklyn Dodgers of LA.
Although that may get confusing when teams move multiple times.

The Boston Braves of Milwaukee of Atlanta.
The Philadelphia Athletics of Kansas City of Oakland.

And then what happens when teams change their name when they move?

The Washington Senators of Minnesota Twins
The Washington Senators of Texas Rangers

It's hard to repeat, but tonight made me more of s believer. Even with a patched up (and underachieving) bullpen and hitting that can be maddening considering the offense they have, they find ways to win.

Go Phils! :bounce:

14. I have to say it.
Roughly HALF of the World Series will be played in L.A. this year. The other roughly half will be played in Anaheim, in Orange County. Not L.A.

Damn Arte Moreno anyway. "Los Angeles" Angels of Anaheim, my ass.

That is all.

19. Sure, why not?
I'm rooting for the Angels solely for the fact I hope they beat the Yankees. I think I'll root for the Dodgers over the Phillies just because we had a Phillies World Series last year and I'd like to see somebody different in it. Plus I always liked Joe Torre, even when he was the manager for the--shudder--Yankees.

22. Given the options left an all LA series looks to be the best combination left
as baseball really will be going over "flyover country" this year with the Twins, Rockies, and Cardinals all out of it. My ideal matchup of Twins vs Rockies is gone (go small ball!) :( . I cannot stand the Yankees or Phillies so I guess lets have it all out in LA, at least I can cheer for Torii Hunter.

which is actually the most interesting possibility, I think, not just for the coast v. coast angle, but also for Joe Torre.

40. Maybe so
But L.A./SoCal and its traffic are synonymous.

We could call it the "Great Weather Series", but that just isn't as catchy.

I do like the idea of playing it on the actual freeway. Everyone would have choice seats.
