The ugliest birthday cake you've ever seen
My mom turned 51 recently. She's a big Mickey fan and for her birthday we decided to get her a Mickey cake. We ordered it from a bakery in Chicago. I told them I wanted a cake in the shape of Mickey's head, like this cake-a cake I found on the internet:

They said "No problem".

So we got to pick the cake up from the bakery on her birthday and *this* is what we get:

WTF is this supposed to be?!

1. Wow. Is that a candle on the right ear, or half a lemon?
Either would be equally possible/strange IMHO.

The best part is the tongue, which is just wrong in every way possible.

3. Between that, his frosting beard and his wide eyes he looks like a dirty old man
It's a good thing it's his head only. I imagine his body would be shaped like a loosely tied trench coat.

7. they probably have to be careful
not to make it look too much like Mickey Mouse. Disney HUNTS for people to sue for infringement. They`re you-know-whats about it. If you want it to really look like mickey, you have to find a place that has a license from Disney to allow them to do that. You would be amazed at some of the people they`ve gone after, really... Mickey Mouse is a BIG lawsuit maker for them, too. One of the biggest I believe.

8. If that was the case, they should have said "We can't do that cake". But they didn't.
Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 01:10 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
Instead they said that it would be no problem and they let me blow my money on it (and it wasn't cheap). Then they gave this POS to me when I didn't have time to buy another cake from somewhere else.

11. I don`t disagree with you on that.
Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 01:13 AM by GirlinContempt
Who knows, maybe they thought it wouldn`t matter or something. I have no idea, but they should have said something. My family has a costume business and whenever anyone wants a licensed character, unless we actually have the item (and we only have a couple) we tend to be very clear with them that we can do something that looks SIMILAR to whatever, but is not actually that costume. I know of a shop that was shut down, actually by Disney, for making their own 7 dwarves, snow white, mickey mouse, minnie, etc. They were morons anyway, but thats off topic. I`m just agreeing by saying we`re up front and they should have been too.

What did you say to them?

14. Disney can be total bears about that.
My mom works for a company that licenses a Disney character and they are really uptight about specifications etc.

When I saw the cake, I was honestly dumbstruck. I didn't know what to say. It was a nice older lady that brought it out and I wasn't about to yell at her.

27. Yeah
I would still complain, no need to yell, but just tell them that you're a little upset they didn't inform you of it ahead of time, and explain your disappointment. Maybe it's too late for you, but they might take heed and help save some other persons cake dreams

instead of saying "No problem".

10. Exactly.
If they couldn't do it for legal reasons, that would be completely fine. I'd get a cake from somewhere else or I'd get a different design. But they said it would be no problem. And by the time I found out what a pile of crap it was, it was too late to get another cake and my money was gone.

And being anime, why you get the weird eyes...

No talent necessary either, apparently. Not much technical skill resulted from the training, as well. That is one hideous cake!

34. That's too shittily be done to be a "copyright" avoidance design. Cake decorator just plain SUCKS.
That's the problem.

Shouldn't have accepted it.

The fucker didn't even try.

Looks more like a cat than a mouse. Someone upthread said it looks like Felix the Cat - I'd accept that comparison.

Seriously, that's a cake decorator who has no artistic skills, no right to be called a cake decorator, and shouldn't get paid for work of such fucking low, lazy, half-ass, pathetic customer-insulting quality.

36. I understand that his mom had some fun seeing it,
even it was badly made, and the 'Yes, we can!' was quite the exaggeration. Funny enough, the original cake displayed is mass-produced in - gasp! - India. ;)

But not everyone can be as good as this cake artist here (German link, just check the 'Galerie.') http://www.zuckerkunst.com/
