6. Go to "options" --> "edit profile"
and in there you will see the "choose avatar" function (though it might not be called that). Then you can pick avatars.

If you donate to DU, you can upload your own avatar.

And welcome :hi: (and sorry we disagree about this POS so-called "song", at least we HATE SHRUB!!!!)

3. No, we built it on selling out
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 11:02 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Starship was the utter shits.

Talk about a band going from the top of brazen rock-and-roll-itude to pathetic little engines of corporate greed, they win the cake.

18. No, not rough to the newbie
that would be much different, and would involve personal attacks or accusations of being a freeper.

This was just me calling a spade a spade, which is to say, honestly declaiming the fact that "We Built This City" is a pathetic POS, and would be pathetic by any band, but is ESPECIALLY pathetic since it's done by the same band that gave us "White Rabbit" and a hundred other totally legitimate, totally rocking tunes.

17. Depends on what you mean by "good pop song"
If you mean "uninteresting POS that will sell millions to an aesthetically challenged America who wants their entertainment pre-packaged and in pre-defined modes and without any artistic (that is "challenging" or "requiring a brain") merit", then yeah, it's a great pop song.

23. LOL!
Boy, I did!!

Perhaps influenced because I'd been a fan of the band since their good days, but even so, the song would still suck just as much eve if done by a normal pop POS band like Billy "I suck" Joel, Brittney, or Beyonce.

I'm just offended that the same band that used to give us hours and hours of drug induced psychadelic perfection, with a singer so drunk she cuold hardly sing, ended up, in the 80s, doing such a rotten, unartistic phlegmatic peaon to banality.

32. I am a child of the 80s. :)
You should see my music collection sometime. It spans generations, but there is lots of 80s stuff in there.

I like stuff from Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis all the way up to Metallica, and lots of stuff in between.

I like Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, early Aerosmith, Queen, Van Halen, Jefferson A/S, Meatloaf, NOFX, and the list goes on and on and on, literally.

:)

33. I'm a late 70s/early 80s coming of age person
and I like them all! I realize bands like Rush, Supertramp, ELO, Boston, Journey, Foreigner, Steve Miller Band, etc. were supposed to be commercialized rock but, hey, that's what I grew up with! Nobody can ever make me forget my air drums with every unsyncopated beat Rush played.

35. And as a matter of fact, I saw Jefferson Starship in concert.
One of the many concerts I went to as a teen. My first concert was Kiss & AC/DC when I was 12 in 1977! After that, I saw Styx, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Ted Nugent, Krokus, Pat Traverse Band, Marshall Tucker Band, Little River Band, Molly Hatchet, Rush 3x, Supertramp, Van Halen 3x, Foreigner, Judas Priest, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Charlie Watts, Ozzy Ozbourne, Rolling Stones, Billy Squier, that's all I can remember right now but there were more! Bye far the best concert of all of them was Bruce Springsteen. It was the clearest sounding and longest show. I never really appreciated him until I saw him in concert that time. He was the best along with Clarence and the rest of the "E" Street band.

36. Also, one has to keep into perspective that the alternatives
at that time included music by discomaniacs or the new and unknown "punk" or "new wave" rock. Yuck! So alot of us just held on to the comfortable commercialized rock that mimmicked and related you to the late 60s/early 70s hard/acid classics. Also remember, FM was new in the mid-70s and WFBQ95 out of Indianapolis was THE "kick-ass" radio station. There was Two-for Tuesday, Wednesday was "hump"day, the 4-o'clock flashback, then there was the "six-pack" without any commercial interruptions for 6 songs. Anyone heard of Bob & Tom? This station was the MTV of my generation. MTV only blossomed right as I graduated high school which exposed me to such oddities as Culture Club, Boontown Rats, Stray Cats & The Pretenders, and George Michael, DuranDuran, etc. So to go from kick-ass classic rock to the new MTV took quite a while to adjust....but you wouldn't believe me now. My teenager influences me to listen to country, Christian, and all the hip-hop and boy & girl bands of today!!!!! What changes we encounter through the years!! I like them all except for maybe all the 80s. That decade lacked for talent except for maybe Madonna or Janet but they just sold themselves out for shock. Nothing makes me feel more comfortable than the old "commercialized" rock though.
