My computer just did the weirdest (and most disgusting) thing!
I don't remember what thread I was in, but all of sudden hard-core (and I do mean hard-core) porn popped up on my screen. I could not click it away or even shut down my computer for several minutes. I finally had to do a force quit. Anybody else ever had that happen? x(

1. You have a computer virus.
Best clean it up.

4. No, a mac.
Macs don't usually do this. This is the first bit of trouble I've ever had with it, and I've had it since May.

7. Oh, boy
If you've surfing porn, sometimes a pop up page will appear as a just a sliver in the corner, then a Javascript will open up a new page

Which means that it may not necessarily be a virus

5. What antivirus programs do you have?
There are some pretty good free ones out there, AVAST and Komodo come to mind.

8. I just looked.
I lookled in the utilities, and under applications, and I don't see one. Will AVAST and Komodo work on a Mac?

9. I did TOO !
must be a left brain right brain thing, but I think the word core right before the word porn made us read it as corn.

No wonder they are accused of having no social skills. They pull crap like this just because they know how, and think it's funny. :grr:

14. Happened when I was using a computer in the library
at our community college. I was in the middle of researching some Social Security stuff and the very explicit porn page just popped up. Froze all the functions. The librarian was there in about thirty seconds, said she'd seen my face go scarlet and guessed what had caused it.

17. It could be a hijacked website
A lot of times it has to do with Google. Yes, THAT Google.

Web designers have to use special Javascript in their pages in order to let Google Ads or Google Analytics do their thing. That Javascript contacts Google directly, which is often targeted by hackers for a man-in-the-middle attack. That's when things get nasty, and all kinds of things can be injected onto your screen.

Other Javascript based web attacks happen quite often. So basically, it might not be a virus, it could just be a webpage under attack by an asshole with a sick fetish.

The good news is, you can keep this from happening again VERY easily. Just disable Javascript.

The bad news is, disabling Javascript stops you from being able to a WHOLE LOT of things on the internet, including logging in successfully to most websites.

Internet security just sucks, doesn't it?

18. NoScript is a brilliant solution, if you're using Firefox.
Disables javascript by default and allows you to pick and choose what you want to enable on a site by site basis.

19. NoScript bugs me too much
It constantly puts that bar at the bottom of the screen. I can't even look at my frequently visited news websites without trusting the whole site.

I hate what the internet has become with the invention of XSS, Javascript popunders and flash abuse...Every website I design is strictly HTML/CSS/DTD.

20. There's an option to remove the bar.
I just have a little "S" in the bottom right hand corner.

It turns to a shade of red when it is blocking some javascript and I just right click on it and it pops up a list of all the scripts on the page.

Works like a dream for me.
