7. There are alternatives to cub scouts -- Campfire (co-ed) or start your own group.
We started our own for our son and had a good 4 1/2 year run of it (basically 1st through 5th grade -- the length of his elementary school).

10. Tell them there are more snacks out there than gorp
Yeah, we signed up a couple of weeks ago and I kicked the menfolk (dad and kid) out to the first pack meeting last week. Our first den meeting is on Monday.

I kinda wish I had been at the pack meeting if only to experience this incident: The drink was purple grape juice. Five-year-old took a swig and exclaimed quite loudly, "Hey! This tastes like wine!"
